Should I be offended by "Happy Memorial Day"?

To Quote Monty Python...'I'm not quite dead yet'. This is a day to remember our comrades who can not be with us. Please wait until I take that caisson ride before you memorialize me. I am not particularly 'Happy' today. I have visions of two empty boots, a fixed rifle stuck in the earth crowned with a helmet. I think of flags folded forever, and wiped with tears of family members who will never see their loved one again.

Wait until November to throw me a party, today, I'll be somber, and grateful.

Should I be offended by "Happy Memorial Day"?
I agree. It's a day of memorialization...hence the name of the holiday. I'll be happy with you in November, as I myself am still quite alive.
Reply:There is Memorial Day and Remembrance Day and you have no cause to be offended.
Reply:You will see your loved ones again. Don't despair.
Reply:No one should be "happy" it's memorial day...lmao..more like respect and gratitude for what our troops have done.
Reply:Happy for what?
Reply:Please don't despair! So very few of us truly understand what this holiday represents. I live in Washington DC, yesterday, as we always do on Sunday before Memorial Day, my mother and I went to my father's grave in Arlington Cemetery to pay our respects.

Although, it is always sad, my heart swells every time we enter the Cemetery. For those in the "know", this is the day 500,000 bikers come for "Rolling Thunder", the protest takes place to bring attention to the MIA's and POWs still in Vietnam. My mother is 73 years old, and thrills her each year.

I am the daughter of a man who served this country 34 years active duty and understand the duty he served to this country. I also understand the sacrifices each of you vet's and active duty personnel make! Be joyful that folks now openly remember and embrace our men and women in uniform on this sacred day!

God Bless our Troops, God Rest our Veteran's and God Bless America! You are our finest examples of citizen's in this world!
Reply:today is a happy day, because i had a day off! shouldn't we all be happy for that :D by the way i dont even care if its memorial day, no one that i know in the military has died that i would care to be sad about it today.
