Summer snowboard storage?

Ok so the season is winding down :(...


and i've literally had my board for like less than 2 months.





so how should i store it untill next season? I have a Burton bag and the boxes for my boots %26amp; binding...





i've heard you are supposed to get your board waxed before storing it away til the next season? Is this completely necessary? especially since i only rode my board twice since i got it late in the season cause of sales and it came prewaxed...

Waxing for storage does a couple of things: it protects the base and keeps it from drying out. It can also help keep your edges from rusting. I highly recomend it. Doing it yourself can be more effective than taking it to a shop.





For the cost of a good tuning, you can get the supplies you need to do a great job. Get a small container of citrus base cleaner similar to this one: http://www.kuu.com/detail.aspx?ID=66





Check the edges for any signs of rust. If you find some, just rub it off with a gummy stone (http://kuu.com/detail.aspx?ID=127) or even a hard stone (http://kuu.com/detail.aspx?ID=126). Be careful to keep the stone parallel to the side of the edge you are rubbing.





Spray the cleaner over the base and wipe it until it starts to dry off. You will be getting all the old wax and dirt out of the base. You could skip this step this year since you only rode your board twice. If you do skip it, make sure you clean all the rust residue from step one off of the base and edges. Personally, I would not skip this step: in fact, I always clean off the factory wax and re-wax a new baord before riding it.





Get an old iron at a thrift store (I got mine for $2.00) and some inexpensive all-temp base wax like this one: http://www.kuu.com/detail.aspx?ID=396





Set the iron to a temperature so the wax melts on it but does not smoke. Drip the wax over the base very liberally. Then use the iron to melt and spread the beads of wax to cover the entire base. let it cover the edges too - that will keep them from rusting. I even rub the wax on the sides of the edges to help coat them.





In the winter, you just need to scrape off the wax. Keep scraping until no more wax comes off.





Anyone can do the stuff that I described. Other than the shopping it only takes about 20 minutes or less. Your board will thanks you for it!
Reply:definitely wax it, you could take it too a shop or just do it yourself, you could also give it a good tune but I like my edges the way they are so i don;t do that (will have to eventually though). Put the board in a board bag for summer storage. it'll stay nice a dry and away from the sun. plus you won't be able to see it. stick package paper, shoebox paper or newspaper in your boots and then lace them up to get all exces moisture out. you may not need to get yours waxed since it is so new but definitely consider waxing it with rub on wax A TON. thats what i did.
Reply:You really do need to give your board a nice wax before you put it away - even if you haven't used it much. What you may not realize is that a little extra effort now can really help in the long run. Proper storage will not only make the first day of next year's snow season less hectic, it will also prolong the life of your snowboard. It will only cost you about 20 bucks and for a several hundred dollar investment - you really should take care of it.
