Its National book week soon...?

Can anyone think of a girl charector that is NOT Disney or Pixar that I can make a costume for my eldest daughter? ( 9 years old) I used to read stories when I was little (some 25 years ago!) but cant remember many charectors. It was book week 2 years ago and she went as Puss in Boots and won and was pictured in the local paper and a Y/A used my idea for her book week. However Im struggling to get some ideas on charectors. My younger daughter is going as Little Red Riding Hood. Ive thought of Rapunzel and Goldilocks. I also thought of Gretle from Hansel and Gretle but she will be lost without Hansel!!! Im trying to avoid Princess so The Princess and the Pea/Frog is out the question. Please can you help? I want the costume to win and I dont want the charector to make her be picked on.... Neither do I want Tracy Beaker! Serious answers please and I dont want to hire or shop buy!!!

THANK YOU!

Pippi Longstockings
Reply:How about Harriet the Spy?

It was one of my favorite books as a child, and if I remember correctly, she wore a red hoodie and a pair of jeans.

Or maybe Pippi Longstocking? She may get teased because of the pigtails, though.
