I'm wanting an all-ride board, deciding between size 160 or 163....

im 190-195lbs, 6ft tall, 12 boot size... intermediate freeride, beginner freestyle

shorter because there is less weight and resistance.
Reply:shorter. because they are lighter and more flexibal and will help you spin faster, and also enable you to get more pop when ollie off a jump.

Reply:shorter. shorter boards are more controllable and can spins easier in the air, but longer ones are more stable and stay up better is pow. for freestyle you want more control and to able to spin, so go shorter. i actually suggest something shorter than your range listed. i suggest a 156 at the very shortest and then like a 161 to max out. you also want a more flexible board for park so look into that. if you want all mountain. do like 158 through 163 and look for a board with mid range flex

What size Nitro MFM Bandera snowboard is right for me?I am 6'1" and weigh 160lbs. My boot size is 11.

I am looking at the Nitro MFM Bandera snowboard and don't know if I should go with the 157 or 159 length (or something shorter) and whether I need the wide or non-wide. It seems that with my stats I might be able to choose any one of these options, but which is going to be optimal? I think non-wide is better, but I don't know if my boot will fit. I also don't know if a longer or shorter board is best. I mostly ride groomed runs and not deep snow.

Well, you don't need a wide board, you'll be fine there. But I would go with the 157, because you won't be riding in deep snow. It'll be easy to handle and turn.
Reply:I'm sorry to disagree with the previous answer, but you should absolutely look for a board with AT LEAST 25cm in waist width. It's not that your boots won't "fit". It's just that those size 11 dogs will drag on sharp turns or chunky snow otherwise. Additionally, you'll lose some toe/heel response since they will sticking out over the edges rather than being flush.

Your weight actually qualifies you for a shorter board, however. The whole school of thought on board length has changed over the years due to the popularity of park and pipe riding. Hell, I remember when we used to buy boards that reached our chins standing up.

A wide 157 will definitely float you in the fluffy stuff but keep you responsive in the park.

Oh! Also make sure you find the right amount of flex and camber in the board you want. Flex is obvious (how stiff the board is). Camber relates to "pop". Lay the board on a flat surface and look underneath. The less contact the middle of the board makes with the floor, the more camber you have. So, when you're riding and you start to lift into a jump, the board will spring more.

A response for those who replied about my 13 year old daughter?

I have talked to her. The police have talked to her. Im not sure if you are all in the US, but I am in Canada and I have looked for boot camp. Her and her 3 friends stole my van for a joy ride a few weeks ago while I was sleeping and you know what the cops said...because there was no damage and they brought it back I cant press charged. She is going to drug and alcohol counselling, but she lies there. Home schooling...that would mean that one of us would have to quit our jobs and financially that isnt realistic. She wouldnt do the homework at home anyway. She is totally defiant. I am hoping that someone who has been through something similiar can let me know what they did. I have done everything I can except send her to foster care. Serious answers only please....I am truly reaching out to anyone who can lend some advice.

Sending your child away only proves in their eyes one thing you didn't want them and don't love them. by doing as i suggested in the first response it would prove that you do love them and they will get the hint fast when they are cut off of the contributors i speak from experience my 12 year old started that this year and i acted on it as soon as i found out that although she chose to be defiant her friends helped to peer pressure her decision uggg i just read what other had to say THIS IS NOT THE RESULT OF POOR PARENTING IT IS THE RESULT OF ONE CHILD'S DECISION AND THE PEER PRESSURE OF FRIENDS i have 3 other children that i treat the same and they all have come out well its just the one child that has the problem which i dealt with and so can the person who asked the question. making a parent feel bad doesn't help the situation some children are more daring then others which has nothing to do with what the parents do or don't do for them

Reply:Hi, Please take Rene's advice. It sounds like you all are incredibly stressed, and the situation is getting worse. I can not imagine you will be able to work this out amongst yourselves at this point.

Don't pay any attention to anyone who says you were a bad parent, they do not know you or your daughter and what the situation is like there. You obviously care for her very much because you are on Yahoo trying to get any help that you can. Kudos to you!

Reply:I work in a behavior modification program with 9th and 10th graders. We have kids as young as 6th grade (I just don't interact with them). Most of these kids have done the same things your daughter has--AND WORSE!

First, take her and your whole family to see a counselor. It's not just her problem or your problem, it's the entire family's problem. Maybe she needs medication, maybe she doesn't...that's up to the counselor. At the very least, you all will gain insight in how to cope with her behaviors and the proper responses to it from attending family counseling sessions. She will also learn that you are serious about wanting her to change not only for herself, but for the good of the whole family!

Next, find a behavior modification program. No, not a bootcamp!! Bootcamps are ineffective and have closed in my state. BMPs work because the kids come in and are given the choice to change and work their way out. They have to set goals and reach them. They have a strict set of expectations they have to adhere to and they are enforced with consequences. They are taught that their actions always have consequences. That might be a lesson she hasn't learned yet.

Make sure you back up everything the counselor and the folks at the BMP say. Too often, I see parents who bring their kids in and they expect us to fix them and raise them. When we need backup, we get the same old "song and dance" from the parents..."I'm too busy to attend a meeting with you", or "Not my child!" or worse--we never hear back from them after leaving multiple messages about their child and their behaviors.

It is not an inpatient program. Our program is an alternative high school program and the kids are home each night. We send home reports each week to the parents for their signatures and acknowledgements. We drug test (both alcohol and illegal substances) regularly and steps are taken if they have a positive test to get them into a drug avoidance program. We also teach them the same high school subjects they were taking in their mainstream school. I would hope you have something like this program in Canada. It's very effective and puts the responsibility for behavior where it should be--in your child's lap!

You definitely need help!! Your daughter is out of control, so take control and get her the help she needs and get the help you need.

Reply:Home schooling is a good idea, you dont have to make it permanent, but make her think it is, talk to her principal and ask if you could remove her from her classes but have all her work picked up by you or someone.. you don't have to quit your job, say you trust her to stay home alone..Take away all privilages.No Phone, computer, games, friends, nothing. Make a list of chores that have to be done daily like laundry and cleaning(mop, weep,dust, organize daily...make sure to keep up with it). After about 2 weeks, let her go out once with her friends, and maybe after a while allow a 15minute phone conversation a day, after chores are done that is. Be creative with it. after about 6 week let her go back to normal school, and you should see a change. I''m letting you know I am only 18, but I am studying adolescent psychology and have a 4.0 GPA. Hope I helped
Reply:Sounds kind of like how my friends were I was never that bad though. I just had a bad mouth on me, truant, and lied to my parents all the time, but this wasn't at 13 more like 14,15. I was late I guess. I grew out of it thank goodness. I had emotional problems that triggered everything I did, I was severely depressed, etc. the list goes on for me I was eventually hospitalized for my actions because my parents weren't watching me closely enough.

For you I'm wishing you all the luck you can get, I see the 13 year olds now and wonder how bad I must have been. Have you tried taking her to a psychologist like someone said above? Maybe things in her life are making her act out, while most likely it could just be peer pressure at her age and the normal 13 year old stage. Can she not just switch schools, or maybe a private school to get into a different crowd? At one point my parents tried this but in our area nothing was close enough and there work didn't allow it so I don't know your situation. Maybe try to spend one on one time together doing only girl things? It might create a better bond between you two and see if she'll open up to you since most girls at that age are really closed off to there parents.

Whatever you do don't give up, and stay strong! My mom has always said that the teen years were the hardest, she's already raised 2 boys but she said raising a girl was the hardest :)
Reply:I would get the child in to a Dr. Psychologist. Medication for calming her if deemed necessary. Sometimes foster care is good but, it isn`t a route any of us like. I personally don`t want a child to go there unless they are in harms way. Sometimes a different location helps. Sometimes the neighborhood is the problem. Sometimes it is the friends of the child. Going to a boot camp may be difficult on all. It does change a child totally. I`m not happy for what they did in boot camp, I have no clue as to what they did to them. My grandchild came back changed but, I wonder if it was for the better. He listens well. However, he didn`t come back able to hug or get close to as he was before it. He came back distant. Yes, he is slowly came back to kisses and hugs for family. Yet, you can feel the distance. I know we all change in time. The boot camp, I still have my questions about. What did they do to my boy? Why is he so changed? I don`t know. He won`t speak about it. Except they yelled at him alot. Screamed in his face. In his ears.( they knew he just got tubes in his ears) They made him break. Whatever they did.. I can`t say it was good. He always listened at home. His trouble was the school, %26amp; a teacher. The other trouble was me listening to Sally Jesse Rapheal. I told him when angry to draw. Like she said to. He did, and that is what got him in trouble. I pray you find help for your child. I can`t tell you what to do. Here we got a tutor to come in to tutor him for a while. One parent/grandparent had to be home during the hours. Times were hard. He`s almost 18 now back in school doing well for the most part. A decent young man. However, he always was a good kid. He is on medication to calm him, anger management. If he wasn`t in school, I don`t think he would have needed it. However, with peer pressure, we had to do something. Lexapro is what he takes. Good Luck.

Reply:Don't quit your job and certainly don't home school. That's even more of an escape route for her to take advantage of. Here is my thoughts. Take everything away from her.I MEAN EVERYTHING. Take her to school and pick her up, rework your schedule and find someone to stay with her until you get off work. (i mean she acts like a convict, then treat her like one). In the mean time, I would do a search online for ALL GIRLS CATHOLIC SCHOOL. They dont mess around in there. See if you can afford it and consider it. Reply:Well, I have to be a little tough and say that is the result of poor parenting. You have spoiled her with a lack of discipline and inadvertantly taught her that the world revolves around her. You've got to toughen up, provide discipline when she does these things, and serious discipline. Nothing will change if you don't change something. But the real problem here is that because you haven't provided meaningful discipline to this point, it's very difficult to do an about-face...but that's what you have to do. You have control over her, you just have to seize it. Call the police when she doesn't comply. Spank her butt good, and let her know if she wants to call the authorities, she should be prepared to leave with the authorities when they come, (I'm not sure on the laws in Canada).

I have a bunch of friends at work that have been snowboarding for a little over 5 years. I am going with them to Big Bear by the end of next month and need as much help as possible. First off I need to know what size to go with length and width? I'm 6'0 190-200. Any particular model to go with? Whats the difference between cheap bindings and high dollar bindings? They just hold you to the board so whats the difference? Boots suggestions? I went to skidazzle last year and saw alot of sales should I rent my first time or just buy right away at skidazzle? What does it cost to rent the basics bindings, boots and a board? Any good reading I can look at online? What are some top snowboard online suppliers?

Sorry for the million questions I just like to be as informed as possible.

wow, lots of questions. so does everyone thats new. your friends havent made suggestions? Judging by your size and height your probly gonna wanna be on a board thats 160cm. some where in that area altho it might be a bit tuff for a beginner. cheap binding Vs good bindings... tru both hold you to board but HOW WELL? cheap might break. i would say rent or borrow first few times so you can find out what you like and dont. Renting used to cost about 50 dollars.
Reply:Go shopping for this stuff with your friends because they will know what to get for you if they have been snowboarding this long. It's harder to tell just by knowing your height. Get a board that is about up to your chin but maybe a little shorter for you because you are so tall. When you first start out you dont need an expensive board. And the high price bindings are just preferences that some people like. Get a cheap pair now and then get a more expensive pair that will fit what you like once you are good at snowboarding.

You CAN although why you'd want you I've no clue. Chaps are more often used when you'll be riding through scrub and don't want your pants to snag on something. The most practical thing to wear would be either jeans or breeches depending on what's more comfortable, some boots with a little heel for gripping on the stirrup. You might want gloves and a hat, depending on the weather, condition of the reins and how often your horse likes to jerk his/her head and pull the reins tight.
Reply:I often wear my half chaps when riding. They are really comfortable and durable. They are not allowed in the competition arena, unless they are proper gaiters and match the colour of the short boot well.

The garter strap is a strap which is attached to the back of long leather boots, fastens around the top of the calf, and is correct dress when wearing hunt boots. I think you mean the 'stirrup strap' that passes under your foot. I always cut them off if I buy Jodhpurs with those horrid things attached! You can buy elasticated straps, with a clip at each end, that hold your jodhpurs neatly over your boots, but these are usually only ever used in competition...

Reply:That's totally fine. I've ridden in breeches, paddock boots, and half-chaps before. Half-chaps aren't just for keeping your legs clean and unscathed in the brush. They help provide better grip against the saddle, especially over fences for the lower leg has a natural inclination to slide backward. So go for it.
Reply:that would be very uncomfortable. I wouldn't suggest it. you can get cheap elastic clips to keep the breaches on or Robinson's has a sale on horse wear. hope this helped.

It was hard to start, so I thought maybe it needed a new spark plug, so I took the old one out and went around town looking for a new plug. Nobody could find one that matched the old plug, so I looked online and ordered a plug from a pocket bike online dealer and put it in the pocket bike. It still was very hard to start, so I put the old plug back in and when I put the boot back on the plug, I guess I didn’t put it on all the way, so it was just sitting on top on the plug, but not pushed down all the way. It fired right up and it ran very well, even thought the boot wasn’t on the spark plug all the way. So he continued to ride it. Now when I went to start the bike for him this past weekend, I couldn’t get it started. The electric starter would not work. There is votage coming from the battery to the starting solenoid, but no voltage coming out. When you push the push button starter, nothing happens, no noise or anything. What might be wrong? Change the solenoid? Also......

First check any fuses. This may be why there is no power getting to the solenoid.

The spark plug boot problem sounds like the spark plug wire needs to be replaced. But it could be a coil problem as well.

Replace the fuse (if bad), recharge the battery, and see if it will crank with the electric starter.

If not, then check the wiring leading to the electric starter motor. Best test is to remove the starter motor and hook it directly to a battery. If it runs, then there is a problem somewhere in the wiring on the bike.

If the starter runs after fuse check and battery recharge, then check the spark plug cable first. If a new cable does not solve the problem, then check the wiring to the coil, then the coil itself.

Reply:You might try to clean the spark plug with paint thinner. It may just not be gettin the fire it needs, due to dirt and gunk. That is the only thing I can think of, right now. Rock On!
Reply:Battery maybe low, charge it then see what happens. It isnt starting because not enough electricity is getting to the spark plug to create an adequate spark for ignition. Replace the battery and charge it fully if needed, if that doesnt work then check the cable that leads to the spark plug, it needs to be tight.

The only other thing is that you should turn the throttle very slightly to allow some fuel into the engine, that will help it switch on though too much will flood the engine.
Reply:You buy junk, you get junk. As a rider, I have no respect for those things. Buy a real bike. EDIT: In my area those types of "scooter" have been made illegal. Dangerous on the roads and difficult to spot by other vehicles. For your son's safety, don't get it fixed, even if you can find someone that will try to fix it.
Reply:Check manual on spec's for spark plug gap.

You may have a burned spark plug wire and it may be arking on the engine instead of gettin to the plug.

Silanoid could be burned out. Also check silanoid fuse. Make sure all connection's are clean.

Check for a small inline fuse from the hot side ( where battery lead hooks to starter solenoid ) that runs to the ign switch - 90% of the time when this blows out - you wont be able to start it. If it still wont start, then possibly the solenoid needs changing.

The spark plug- well it probably fired even tho the boot wasnt on right.

When was the oil changed last? That could cause hard starting .

Or does it use pre mix gas? Maybe its not mixed heavy enough.
Reply:Try the solenoid first. Check for spark by removing the sparkplug boot and spark plug and let it set against the motor to ground - crank motor- should see blue spark. Report It

Reply:Keep it simple. First off, the plug wire boot may have not fitted on correctly and the power could not get to the outer end of the spark plug thru the wire because it went deeper. Sometimes they are weird. Still try to fit it on so it is on as best as it can be and the bike stays running.

The starter thing. Is the bike in neutral(Know how to operate this thing - read the manual-) It could be like an automatic car, if not in N or P the starter will not engage.

So too, may be the case if the oil is too low. I don't know, read your book.

You just bought the darn thing. It should not be breaking down yet. Give it a couple of years. Just don't freak out. Sit down have a coffee and be leisurely about it (and rational and step by step methodical)

Can a baby ride a dog on walks?

If say you had to take the baby out in a stroller and walk the dog, would this be killing two birds with one stone? I don't own a baby of any sort but it came to me earlier that it might not be a bad idea. I don't think anyone could look at me with a straight face and say they wouldn't find the sight of a baby in cowboy boots and hat strapped to the back of a large dog awesome. Other babies would be jealous.

A dog is an animal. While they are smart, and loyal, they should always be seen as being unpredictable. If you put a baby on the back of one, and make the baby secure, what if your dog decides to scratch it's back on the pavement all of a sudden. The dog will not have any intentions of hurting the child, I am sure of this, however, A dog never means to hurt you when they jump up to greet you but knock you down either.

Due to un expected behavior of the animal, don't ever try this idea. In a controlled enviorment, however, I have seen large breed dogs let children use them as tools to learn how to walk. Now that is friggin' adoreable!
Reply:Dogs backs arent designed to take the stress of carrying a load across it, you will do some damage. However, i do have a 2 wheeled cart i made up, with 2 seats on it, straps for the kids, and 1 pole that has a chain on it to the middle of the harness so the pole doesnt actually touch him, and a strap on either side of him attached to the side of the harness, its just a regular chest harness. Its enough to let my dog move from side to side in the harness and almost turn sideways but the cart itself doesnt turn sharply so no chance of tipping. I wont carry more than 2 kids and combined weight cant be more than 100lbs, even tho the dog itself is 213lbs, just so as not to put too much stress on him. He loves it, the kids love it, strangers walking by love it and i have hands free. BTW he is extremely well trained but i still have a halter on him that with one sharp pull, brings his nose to his chest, forcing him to sit, and spring releases for the straps to get him out of the harness.

Reply:They can but they shouldn't. Dogs are'nt designed like horses, their backs aren't built to carry a load for a long period of time. Short times maybe, but not on a regular basis.

Also it's a bit risky for the baby, the dog might get a fright or another unleashed dog may approach to start a fight, at least with the baby safe in a stroller you have your hands free to deal with stuff like that.

OK so i have this paire of i think suede or leather timberland boots (like 12 inches i think) and they smell on the inside(cuse of my feet ....i think) .I was wondering if i spry them with perfum (on the inside ) if it would make the smell go away ? I have to agree with ^^^^ --- perfume will just add to the smell. You should put something in the shoe that will absorb the odor, not simply mask it. One very cheap thing that will do the trick is baking soda. Sprinkle that in the shoes, then put them in a plastic bag for a couple days. The powder should brush off easily later.

Try Fa-breeze (spray in and let it dry completely before wearing again).. Odor Eaters boot spray...

Get some Odor Eaters in-soles..

If your feet smell so badly get them checked out you could have a fungal infection that's causing the smell...
Reply:Ya, don't put any perfume on it because first of all it will combine with the smell thats in the inside of your show and it will stink even more, second of all it will damage the shoes I messed up a ton of shoes doing that if you want to get rid of the smell just buy the proper spray to get rid of it don't use perfume, deoderant, anything else exept for the proper spray :)

Reply:I am an avid hiker, and I find that if you tie the shoes up in a plastic bag from the grocery store with a little container of baking soda in there with them and then put in the freezer over night the smell will go away. But dont spray them with perfume, it just makes the smell worse and it will ruin the shoes.
Reply:Perfumes and colognes have oils in them that will stain your shoes, do not use them. You can buy some cedar chips or a cedar forms for your shoes, that will remove odor or talk to your shoe repair person.

Okay, so I was looking at the Royale as my new board, and I was wondering how it would be for all over the mountain, park, regular trails, etc. I have a size 10 boot, 5'8, and about 130-140 lbs. I'm an intermediate rider. I can ride all regular downhill trails, and I'm ok in the park, but I want to progress in the park/pipe. I currently ride a 155, which comes right under my chin so a 158 should be okay.

Any feedback is appreciated. If anybody has ridden the Royale or it's regular-waisted sister, the Air, I'd like to know how they perform.

Burton Royale?
The Royale is a good all around board. Good for groomers and should be decent in the park/pipe. Not the greatest for powder/back country.

If your looking for a straight up park board then....

1. I wouldnt go with the 158, stay with a 155 or a go a couple cm. shorter. Trust me, you do not want to go from a 155 to 158 for park riding.

2. Check out the Burton Twin 154. It would be more of what your looking for.

How do you stop an oil leak for a Honda CR125?

I am looking into purchasing a Honda 03 Cr125 with a fresh rebuild in the ad. When i took it for a test drive we noticed oil leaking out of the pipe. If u follow the pipe down towards the motor theres a rubber holder or boot where its leaking. And since its a new top rebuild and not rode he said the bike just needs to be rode so it will seal its self for the oil to stop leaking out. Is this true or something more major wrong. Thanks, Matt Smith

How do you stop an oil leak for a Honda CR125?
That is completely normal, until the bike is ridden hard the oil will not burn out of the silencer. I would be more worried if there was no oil residue, unless the silencer was just repacked. If there was no oil I would be concerned the bike was jetted too lean and that the top end was replaced because it had been seized. Do not add extra oil during break in, you would actually be leaning out the mixture since there would be less gas and more oil. To break in a 2 stroke just ride it easy and let it cool down , do this 3 or 4 times and it's ready to romp on.
Reply:i believe that the cr 125 is a 2stroke motor. if so you have to use pre-mixed gas with oil if it is a 2str your alright because the oil is going to come out with the exhaust gasses.

Reply:Stop mixing oil into the gas. Your oil leak will stop and your engine will seize. You don't know enough about bikes to start riding. Get a bicycle.
Reply:Oil leaks don't fix themselves, motorcycle or otherwise. He's scamming you. This is just my opinion based on experience of course. Call a mechanic shop and ask them just as you asked us, they'll probably tell you the same thing.
Reply:you try to lubricate out the oil first then check the pipe using soap water and seal up the end put air inside see got leaking...sign or not....or you try to check the rubber also...maybe the rubber casket already...expired...become dead rubber already..that my suggestion..

Reply:Its normal, 2 Strokes drool, what can I say, my RMX250 used to drool like a pitbull (sorry, thinking of Turner and Hooch for second) If it drools, go to a better version of 2 Stroke oil in the gas. I personally use Bel Ray H1R oil at 40:1 and rejetted the carb, cleared it right up. You may need to go richer for a 125 w/ the oil (higher RPM needs more lubrication) but you could play w/ it. Don't forget this, if you ever hit the sand dune (wouldn't do it w/ a 125 to save my life mind you) go richer with either a carb setting or oil mixture. You will need to ride rich until the new piston is broken in too (usually 1 tank will do it) I do remember hearing that the seal at the expansion chamber can leak until it seats itself... I guess mine never seated itself, because it still drools
Reply:CR125 is a two stroke whatever the first moron said. XR's or CRF are fourstrokes. The oil is normal, it actually shows it isnt being ridden hard enough/long for the exhaust to get hot

This is another attempt of the WWE to push Edge. After he broke off from Christian, Edge was scene as the next Shawn Michaels/Bret Hart. Unfortunately, he has failed to deliver on that promise.

How much should I expect to spend for some decent used equipment? Is it wise to buy boots online without trying them on? I dont want to go above 200 for board, bindings, and boots. Is that unreasonably low?

I would think that you could get new boots and a used board / binding setup for a combined $200 if you weren't expecting much of your used board - maybe look at a local ski swap or on eBay.

If you do purchase, I think you would be very smart to get the boots that you will be keeping and a used board / bindings that could be upgraded if you decide you like to ride. This is what will probably happen - I only get out my skis now when there is very icy conditions.

You could also do a season rental for about the same cost and probably get a little nicer equipment and some help in setting it up for your first season of riding.

Reply:I would suggest making sure that you really try on your boots before buying them as everyone's feet are so different. As a longtime skiier you probably know how much a good pair of boots can make a difference in your comfort and performance all day. With snowboarding it is the same way.

As for a used board and bindings you should be able to find some good deals for around your budget. I also like the idea of seasonal rentals as you're likely get a bit of a nicer board that's designed for more beginner/intermediate riders.

I recently installed Windows on my Intel iMac with Boot Camp and I really have no desire to have my computer ridden with viruses now lol, so I was wondering, what is the best antivirus/antispyware and or firewall software for Windows that doesn't hog the resources. I know Norton, McAfee, and it's similarities do this so i'm looking for something (preferably free) that will work. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Best freestyle bindings?

My step-dad ramdomly picked these Salomon Force bindings for me. I tried them out and i like them because it's easy and fast to strap on and it's plastic which makes it light. Are these bindings actually any good? They are my first bindings that's why. I ride 145cm, i'm about 5' 5" and weight about 110lbs. my boot size is 10 in men. What are pretty decent freestyle bindings?

I'm also thinking about getting a Capita Stairmaster 144cm, which bindings would go good with that board?

The Ride MVMT bindings are the lightest and simplest bindings out there with really high quality hardware and buckles.

Plastic buckles tend to "strip" or wear down very quickly which can cause them to come loose - there is a lot of force on them especially landing jumps and other freestyle riding - a better binding will last longer and hold better.

Reply:Of course the UL would be nice, but I don't think there is that much difference - even the Delta would be a great binding (that is the only one I've seen in action in person). I would let your wallet decide if you can afford the UL or Alpha. Report It

ok i need to format the hard drive how do i get too do this i have placed the windows xp in to the cd dvd burner i restarted the computer and the computer went into a blue screen starting windows the computer was reading the windows xp so i went into bios by pressing the F8 key i went into boot section disabled the maxtor so i can read the dvd burner where the windows xp is in so nothing happen so i went back to the bios and enable the maxtor back too booting the desktop so i like too know how can i over ride the cd dvd burner too be able too get into the desktop so i can go into my computer and format the hard drive i as i been recieving a error corruption as well virus something like it so i really need any one's help on too teach me how too get onto the desktop so i can format the hard drive please thank you very much

Ok your problem is simply the boot order and I think the guy above me just mis typed but he meant, set the boot order to CD then Hard Drive press F10 in most systems to save your settings. With your CD in the computer turn it on and it will eventually prompt you to press any key to boot to cd. At the point Press any key. It will start to load the windows files it will come to a point where you get the option to add partitions delete partition or format the hard drive. Go ahead and make your selection and precede you will be on the right track to reloading your OS.
Reply:If you are trying to reinstall XP from CD, you need to make sure you BIOS boot order is CD then Hard Drive, boot to the CD, format hard drive, install Windows, and then (you don't have to but it's nice) set your BIOS boot order back to hard drive first.

Reply:There is no point going to your desktop to format your hard drive. You cannot format your hard drive from your hard drive.

It must be done from a floppy disk or a CD.

You should try and boot in safe mode and then select Last Know Good from the menu options.

It is pointless trying to format a drive that has already been formatted. Find out to fix your problem some other way.

I have my Windows Xp cd and i recently had a virus on my Computer and when i got rid of it some things got messed up and it is a custom built computer so i cant call any manufacturer... now i want to reinstall windows XP on my computer with the same CD i just want to basically start Fresh and clean all over again on this computer.... ive tried booting up with this CD and it installed windows again but for some reason it kept the same

icons programs everything still in the spot i had it .... running on startup ... nothing was changed so now i tired going to system config menu and playing around in there to see if itll just boot up the CD drive and not the OS so maybe i could over ride it ... im doing all i can to NOT format the hard drive so i don't have to reinstall all the drivers ....

i am trying to boot up using the CD so i can just like Place windows XP over all the files that i have on it now but its not working .... any idea? cause my ideas aren't working

no, you need to start afresh and reinstall any drivers you have , i know it's time consuming but do it, no shortcuts or you'll have the same problem. close your eyes and just do it. it's a pain, i know. good luck!

If you simply want to reinstall, just boot from the operating system install media.
Reply:Reload your system from same Windows XP CD from zero zero. While loading when system asks you to format drive, click OK and then proceed. After completely loading XP. immediately load anti virus and then format other drives if you have on your computer and then run anti virus on entire computer. It will be a safe computer now. Good luck.
Reply:eh to ur first question, IF u still have XP, press start, Programs accesories, system tools system restore(what it does is that it brings ur com to a previous state like a few months ago so u can restore it back before the virus came, u might want to install some anti virus stuff after that or just swith to MAC)this does not work for vista btw

The whole cartoon is a song and shows all the places of the world. Theres a guy who looks like egghead whos visits all these places as the song goes on.

It begins in Amsterdam with two kids dancing and windmills in the back. In the end a guy from Bagdad steals a diamond or something and all start chasing him. The map of Italy becomes a boot and kicks him. Finally he and rider on a horse ride away. He asks "Hey! who are you?". The rider replies "I'm the masked (dont remember the rest").

Its like a geography lesson that takes a tour of the whole world.

well i dont really get what you mean to do but you could either format the C: drive assuming thats where netscape is or you could try deleting it completely (sorry but i have a good feeling you will get restricted but its worth a try)

well go to "run" in the start menu, and type "cmd" into the box and youll get the cmd prompt.

and put the location of the netscape folder in "example"

the "-f" means to force the deleting, and it wont prompt you for a "press y for yes to confirm, or n for no to abort". But yeah hope it helps

they both seem really good.... i don't know which to choose, i got a lot of positive reviews off the internet.

I ride 145cm, im about 5' 5" and weight about 110lbs. my boot size is 10 in men.

i do most things in the parks, which one is better according to you guys? or is there a better one for me?

Weight- super light the boards cut super thin

Twin- Yes

Buttery- Absolutley the only problem it that once it breaks in it turns into a noodle

Jumps- Not the best board but you could get by with it its gonna be super unstable on landings and take offs but you can handle it it wont be super bad

durable- this is debatable ive heard from others it is but im gonna say its not. After a while of using it for a jib board it gets sloppy and presses just dont look as nice

Capita-

Weight- Mid weight but not heavy just has a thicker profile

twin- yes

buttery- Yes but not as much as the www this board will keep a constant flex though you wont be all over the place.

jumps- Uhhh its kinda like the www but not as bad. Its still kinda a jib board so it wont hold its edge on landings or take offs super well but itll definatly be better than the k2
Reply:both nasty boards (ridden both of them), also both fairly weak though

www is a little more flexy makin it better for jibs and butters

stairmaster is gonna be more stable for jumps and better for freeriding

they can do pretty much the same stuff but they each hav their specialties, both are twin tipped and have extruded bases and biaxial flex patterns if you want to get into tech stuff

if you ride a www drop 5cm because they shaped it so you could do that, but i think the smallest is a 143 so get that, and for a stairmaster i think the smallest is 145 so that would be on the money if thats what size you ride

summary:

WWW = better for jibs and butters, and just screwin around on small stuff

Stairmaster = a little more all around than WWW, better for jumps and freeride, but not quite as good for jibs and butters but its still good for them

also rome artifact is similar = more like WWW but has a diff feel cuz it has a diff flex pattern (even a little more jibby than a WWW i would say)

stairmaster is no weaker than WWW, rome artifact is also good jibby board

have rode those others but any real jibby board isnt gonna be that strong, which is have the reason they are so flexible (just make sure to get a warranty)
Reply:My friend has a Capita Stairmaster and, while it is an awesome board that will shred you through the park, it seems poorly made. He's had to send it in 3 times now for various reasons (snapped board, seperation of ptex from top layer etc.) I guess its a steep price you pay for the cheap price you pay. I've heard good things about the WWW though. All-around board with a jibstick attitude? Shouldn't dissapoint.

a gnu street is a great board, but they make a 148 and thats a bit big for you... just go to a boardshop and ask them because face it, there are some people on here who dont know crap about what their saying. (a capita stairmaster is pretty much strictly jib, not the best for jumps)

1st- I know you guys don't want to bring this back again - gosh some people get so mad about it lol but- I'm doing a report about horse slaughter. I need a couple sites that don't really favor one way or another, I need the facts. *All I can find are the "stop horse slaughter" ones, and they don't really work, so if you guys could help me out that would be great!

2nd- I've been looking through some magizines and noticed a type of boot that is "replaceable for a lost shoe on a trail ride or an event of any kind" Do these work? They don't seem to be too expensive. Can they be replace for an actual shoe, so I don't need to buy the real shoes from the farrier? If I can, that'd be great it'd save me a buttload of cash. Any imputs on the shoes?

3rd- Now that it is spring, the ground is getting wetter and soggyer. With the horse ride on it, it gets very muddy and messed up and the ground is ruined. *MORE INFO DONT ANSWER UNTIL I FINISH LOL*

Reply:#2: My mare is ouchy on gravel (and I live on a gravel road), so I got her Cavallo Simple Boots for her front hooves. Now I ride her on gravel road with no problems. She occasionally does an "ouchy" step with her back hooves, but not often enough to get boots for them as well. Make sure you break in the boots slowly - don't go on a 5 hour ride the first time you use them.

three - why does your horse need shoes? Is there something wrong with his/her feet? If you aren't doing any special riding or in an arena with a lot of sand and there isn't anything wrong with the hoof itself - you shouldn't need shoes

try to uninstall device drivers of your previous system in that system using device manager mainly of chipset and audio drivers.drivers of plug and play device are not need to be re moved.Try and install the drivers of your newer cofiguration in newer system if it works.Some PCs can not be run with entirely same configuration of BIOS, motherboared and hard disk which may be in your previous system if it is a branded one.

Saab 9-3 convertible microswitch?

Our 2001 Saab convertible is suffering from "soft top failure." After verifying that the hydro fluid was filled, I looked for microswitches. I found one on the driver's side above the two hydraulic rams that should engage just as the top is going into the boot well. The small aluminum lever that "rides" one of the moving parts seems bent to hell and is not/could not be engaging the switch. Figuring this is my problem... I CANNOT remove the switch to replace (bending back seems impossible without breaking). With the 5th bow up from outside the car, I've been able to access the retaining bolt with a 3mm hex/allen wrench, but the bolt itself bottoms out into one of the support bars before screwwing out completely. Is there a better way to access this bolt... too many struts/bars in the way. Seems like trying to get at it from inside the car means removing a lot of stuff.

I know this is very specific... but I've already seen a lot of helpful Saab/top info here.

Saab 9-3 convertible microswitch?
A 2001 9-3 and a 2007 9-3 are two totally different body styles and convertible tops.

The switch should be able to be bent back into place without breaking it, otherwise to replace it you need to dismantle some of the brackets which isn't an easy chore.

What is happening to the top? is the 5th bow not latching to the cover?

Sometimes the 5th bow latch motor stops working and will not latch or will stay latched even when the 5th bow is open.

I recommend taking the car to a garage that has a Tech2 scan tool that has SAAB software and have the scan the soft top for codes instead of guessing, guessing cost more money.
Reply:Okay, Saab has posted on the web a way to replace this. I only know the answer to this since my neighbor owns a 2007 Saab Convertible and has the same problem (Saab has a recall on this). Which is the best traditional laced women specific snowboard boot out there? Im thinking 32 lashed or Burton Supreme or perhaps the Saloman Kiana...any thoughts? Medium stiff mainly ride the powder, trees and groomers. Use boardercross and terrain park only twice a week or so?

The one that fits you the best is the best boot - it is as simple as that. That said, 32 has the lightest boots around. They have heat mouldable liners. 32 is becoming one of the top selling boot makers, with the Lashed as one of their top sellers. Solomon also makes a great boot. Heavier but very durable. I rode my last pair of Solomons for almost 4 seasons. Can't comment on Burton - never ridden anything from Burton and I don't plan to.
Reply:I just bought my first pair of thirtytwo exus boots and they're great. At first they were a bit stiff and odd feeling but as I rode them they got really really comfortable. I'd recommend the brand to anyone.

3 Questions?!?!?
(1) Bell boots are for over reaching and interference back legs up to front hooves. The bulb of the heel on the front hoof is sensitive to injury and they can somewhat deflect overreach to pull a shoe off, but if a shoe isn't on properly, they are not going to help. If your horse over reaches habitually, talk to you farrier about rolling toes in front and squaring the toes of the back hooves-this allows the front hooves to break away faster and slows the rears/and the squared toe is less likely to grab the front hoof. At that point, bell boots become vital preventative protection for athletic events such as roping and barrel racing, etc.

(2) Now, neck wraps made of neoprene, and the old ones were fleece, are for sweating of the area to thin it, making the horses' neck look longer and throat latch neater in the show ring. If you are talking a collar---leather or metal, that is for cribbing.

(3) Fleece saddle pads are a matter of preference just as anything else. We used Coolback fleece pads when I was a kid and they were great. They are cooler than wool and the sweat drains off the horses' sides. I prefer neoprene these days with lumbar air relief holes down the back. But, no matter what pad you choose, most will say is that a good pad isn't cheap and it will be a great investment, so don't go skinny in this area.

2) A neck wrap on a horse's blanket can serve for two purposes: On a new Zealand rug it helps keep the neck warm and dry, and on a fly/day sheet, it helps to keep flies and dirt off of a horse's neck.

3) Generally, fleece saddle pads should not be used for long rides or on a horse that sweats around it's back alot because fleece dosen't absorb sweat and can get slippery when wet. Light cotton saddle pads are best as they absorb sweat and moisture from the horses' back while riding.

The neckwrap is just a extended version of a fly mask basically, it keeps the flies away, but usually the most common way for a neckwrap to be used is when the horses go travel for a long distance and the owners don't want them to rub their hair off or get cuts. Fleece pads are ok, but when the horse sweats a lot it has a tendency of slipping around, causing the horse discomfort and it get's very hot under there very easily. So, as they said, only for light rides.

Reply:Bell boots can be used for various reasons such as preventing a horse pulling off egg bar shoes in the field, preventing over reaches when jumping or if the horse doesn't track up and also stops the horse catching it's legs with shoe clenches.

Neckwraps - if you are talking about neoprene neck sweats, they are used mainly within the show horse world, especially QH halter horses to refine the neck on heavy muscular horses. The horse is worked in sweats and then tied up for a couple of hours and it will not cause fat loss, but will tighten and firm the neck to some degree which gives it a more precise look for the ring. Neck covers or hoods are for warmth and to prevent a horse growing a thick winter coat. They usually match the blanket in color and fabric type. Collars for cribbing are called cribbing collars and they are used to prevent the horse from sucking in air. For some horses they work and for others, they are totally useless.

People think that fleece does not absorb sweat as well as other fabrics and so it heating and uncomfortable for the horse. However, most saddle pads are made of synthetic material with fleece around the edge and waffle knit material in the center which wicks away moisture.

Reply:Yes, neoprene neck wraps can prevent cribbing. I have used them for this myself and know for a fact it works. Mostly they are used to sweat down the thoatlatch of a fat quarterhorse, but inhibit the neck enough to make a halfhearted cribber or cribber wannabe stop.
Reply:Bell boots are mainly used on the front legs to stop horses causing injury to themselves when they overreach .Overreaching is when the back foot comes too far forward in action and catches the back of the front foot. This can result in falls, cuts or shoes being ripped off. Some horses need to wear them in the field as well. Less often they are used on the back legs if a horse catches it's feet together when it moves.

A neck wrap may be used to sweat excess fat of a horse's neck ( like those things people use on their legs sometimes)

Bell Boots are a boot that is used to protect the horse from hurting themselves, some horses "over-reach" which is when the hind leg will hit the front foot before it leaves the ground, i use bell boots to keep my horse from pulling his shoes he's bad about over-reaching and pulling he's shoes off.

2. What type of neckwrap are you talking about? There is a cribbing collar and then there is a neck sweat. The cribbing collar keeps the horse from cribbing where the neck sweat will make fat come off a horses neck, A lot of your serious show people use them, i've seen them go all the way down the neck and i've seen them use the ones that are just behind the throat lach area.

3. A fleece saddlepad, is a heavier saddle pad then a normal saddle pads but do what you want. Fleece is going to hold more heat in it then what a cotton pad would.

Been riding for 6 yrs.

style. - resort, not been in a park at all . would love to hit the kickers. not the rails but boxes.. I usally a carver.

I only had a one board. Nitro Titan 01. It's a wide board. and all mountain. I thought it holds edge well but stiff.

Looking for new board with more pop but I will be in the park 20% time. I just want something more responside and flow. Nitro was good but i feel like it's a clukcy board.

Snowboarding Shopping Advise needed.?
Depending on your price range and preference, I would check out the Arbor Roundhouse, the Ride Dose or the Burton Twin.

The Arbor Roundhouse (http://www.arborsports.com) is a wide all mountain/freestyle board. Arbor uses all natural wood cores and top sheets, and the bamboo top sheet of the Roundhouse gives you additional pop. I own 2 Arbor boards, the Wasteland and the A-Frame, and I could not be happier with them. Both boards are responsive and fast, and extremely durable, so I don't have to worry about snapping them like I do with my Burtons.

The Ride Dose (http://www.ridesnowboards.com) is a wide version of the ride DH, possibly the most ridden or best performing all purpose park board on the market. It is extremely poppy, and with Ride's Slimewalls, it gives you a little damping on landings and rails, if you decide to hit them. I have a Ride Society that I ride, and its a really nice board, very easy to spin and take rainbows.

The Burton Twin (http://www.burton.com) is a mid-wide freestyle board, designed to be ridden in either the park or the groomers. As a true twin shape, you can ride regular or fakie, and have a great time doing little 180s off the kickers. Having been riding Burton boards since I was 6, I can recommend them hands down. However, I have found Burton's park boards to be slightly less durable than those from Ride or Arbor.

Size wise, I would think somewhere in the 152-155 range would give you a fun park board, that you could take onto the groomers, as long as you aren't dying to bomb down the hill. However, I would check with each board, since they all have different weight ranges.

Oh, and as far as the wide board vs regular question, I would say you could go with either, depending on your stance. If you have a straight stance, with a regular board you run the risk of toe/heel drag. Plus, with all the advances in wide boards (stringers, middle lines), you don't lose any responsiveness by going to a wide board, and you actually gain float in the deep snow/power.
Reply:The best brands available right now are Lib-Tech. and Gnu. They both have web sites that show their boards. The length of board really depends on your skill and the type of snow you will be in. A regular width board would be easier to turn, but you would run the risk of having toe and heel drag. If you prefer white meat(powder) then stick with the wide board.

My girlfriend is 160lbs and 5'11" I am trying to get her a more advanced wakeboard, she has been riding my hyperlite 147 era and I know that board is to big for her, she still is able to get huge air with it but I think she'll really be able to do alot better with the right board. What size board should I get her, and I want to get her a board she won't out grow or advance beyond its capabilities!!! Thanks, also any girls have a binding or boot they find is really comfortable, right now my board has liqiud force bindings that are super comfy and I want to get something just as comfy for her, suggestions???

At that height and weight, you could certainly drop below the 140's. If you are not looking for a ladies board, the Liquid Force Fish is a fun board, it rides about 10 cm shorter than what you might be currently riding. This is because it is much wider so you actually have the same surface area for pop off the wake. My main board is a CWB Absolute, but I ride with Liquid Force Alpha bindings. These are so much more comfortable than my ole CWB Torq bindings I was running. However, the new CWB's with the hinge on the heel I hear are really good.

Ok, here's the deal... I'm 23 fem... I gotta 2 1/2 yo lil girl. I'm not your typical 'chic.' I don't like shopping. I'm not much into 'fashion.' My clothes consist of jeans, boots and a t-shirt. I'm not a slob but I just don't doll up and what not. I would rather hike or fish or just ride around on back roads. I find myself attractive - more inside than out though. And it seems that I can't find a guy who's interested in me. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I don't do drugs, don't drink. I'm more of a 'friend' to guys than girlfriend material. The last guy that I dated or whatever (for 2 months) said he'd rather be my best friend and I haven't heard from him since. I just don't know what I'm doing wrong. I seem to attract jerks and losers. And here I am, another Saturday night - at home, on the net. I don't have any female friends to talk to or to confide in. They'll talk to me at school (college) but when it comes to hanging out, they ditch me. Can anyone give me any advice?? Please

I don't know, but you sound like an interesting person. If you are clean and coordinated then I don't think the clothing is an issue, especially, if you are comfortable. I don't think you should feel like you are not enough. There is someone for everybody, maybe your guy friends are out pounding the girls and have enough respect for you not to treat you like one of them. You also never know, one of them could end up falling for you and loving you for who you are. As far as the girls ditching you, they might not be on your intellectual level. All they probably have going for themselves is appearance. Everything will fall into place, you're not an old maid, you're in college doing things for yourself, you have a good head on your shoulders. You seem really cool. You've got some great interests - you just need to find people who share them. If you like to hike, try the Sierra Club. They have an off-shoot called Sierra Singles that sponsors hikes for single people. That way, you're doing something you enjoy, and if you meet someone - male or female - you know that they like the same kind of thing.

There are also Parents Without Partners groups - that should be a good place to meet people who understand the responsibilities, joys and difficulties of raising a child alone.

She had the habit of looking into mirrors to check her face. Connie’s mother would compare Connie’s actions to June’s . How Connie has less sense. But even then when her mom constantly compare them two Connie would not change her ways.

Connie was like two different persons . Everything to her had two sides, one for home and one for anywhere else out of home. Connie is more focus on being loved by her friends and guys ,then her own family . Her relationship with her mom and sister isn’t great . Nor with her dad he “was away at work most of the time“. K so I ride this gorgeous palomino and I'm having trouble deciding on what color saddle pad I should get for her. Opinions? I like pink and bright blue, not crazy about baby blue though. She is a girl and that kinda seems like a boy color. Bright colors, I love my pony and she is so fun and exciting! I need something to match her personality! Reply:Maybe get something silver lined-- I always like dark purple, maroon, hunter green and greenish-periwinkle (i don't know how to describe it, almost like a light greeny with a TAD of blue) on my palominos! Black actually looks nice too but it's kind of boring!

I don't really like to use pink or blue because they are SO typical-- when i see a pony with a pink saddle pad i just think of a little girl with braids dressing up her pony and bleh, it just doensn't look experienced or professional. I have no idea why but i just think it looks TOO girly!

A guy walks in a bar he has on a harley leather hat, harley leather jacket, harley boots, takes out his harley wallet and gets a beer. What a sap! Then talks about his harley. Just how gay are you HD riders its bad enough you paid good money to ride 90 year old technology! Then you had to take the mufflers off of it....So why the tough guy act? Is it because some guys are straight and dont like the reach around from a fellow hog rider.

well, there you go. Harley guys used to be THE BEST! but now, all these weekend ya-hoos think they've got something to prove...the guy with all his Harley-endorsed b.s. is just that, a load. Find any real Harley guy, he's about a million years old, ha a beard down to his Jonny, is the best gentleman you've ever met, and waves to everyone ele on a bike, the old school way...nothing to prove, just a way of life. (and most of them are not gay, just so you know)

so she took it to the vet ! The vet found it was hair in the dogs ears causing the problem so he cleaned them out and the dog was fine ! The vet told the old lady that to stop it ocurring again to buy some Nair and just repeat what he had just shown her.

When she went to Boots, the chemist suggested that if the Nair was for her underarms, then not to use deoderant for a few days.

There's a benefit ride here on Halloween and they encourage people to dress up with their horses. I have a white horse and thought he could be the Lone Ranger and I could be Tonto! LOL

Since your horse is grey....you could be the fairy girl from the Lord of the Rings and the horse could be Shadowfax.

You could get a large pair of jeans from the GoodWill store and put them on the horse and use some bailing twine to hold them up. I saw that on a camping trail ride a few years back. Then you could dress to match.

Or the horse could be the bride (with a veil) and you could be the groom!

Unfortuantly you can't wear splint boots in dressage shows, but they sell them in pink and blue everywhere!

Reply:For the splint boots and saddle pad I would go with white. Brushes I would go with purple or blue. For the halter I don't know, but if you go onto Weaver Leather's web-site they have the best range of colors that I have found. For the bridle stay with a color that matches you saddle, because a lot of show judges don't like the colorful bridles.

MEXICALI, Mexico - Among travelers, it's jokingly known as Aeromigrante - Migrant Air.

New discount airlines in Mexico are doing a brisk business shuttling migrants to the U.S. border, turning what was once a days-long trek into an easy hop for legions of workers, both legal and illegal.

"It's much more comfortable than the bus and about the same price," said Leopoldo Torres, 37, of Mexico City, as he stretched his legs aboard Volaris Flight 190 to the border city of He and a traveling companion, Julio Menéndez, paid $118 each for the three-hour flight. They planned to cross into the United States illegally through the California desert.

Such migrants have become bread-and-butter customers for airlines Volaris, Avolar, Alma, Viva Aerobus, Interjet and Click, all of which have started up in the past two years. Older carriers such as Aero California and Aviacsa have cut their own prices to compete.

"The most productive routes we have are cities where you have those passengers who are traveling with the idea of the American Dream," said Luis Ceceña, a spokesman for Avolar. About 70 percent of Avolar's passengers are migrants, he said.

For some airlines like Avolar, the emphasis on migrant travel was a conscious decision, with company officials structuring their routes and fares around migrants' needs, he said. For others, it was simply a side effect of low prices, which have opened up air travel to millions of poorer Mexicans.

The airlines say they treat migrants like any other passengers. The Mexican government has promised to try to slow emigration by creating jobs in Mexico. But by law, Mexican authorities and companies cannot impede the free travel of their fellow citizens, even if they suspect they are going to cross the U.S. border illegally.

Heading for the desert

Travelers planning to cross illegally are easy to spot. At the Hermosillo airport, a major crossroads for migrants headed to the Arizona desert, they are the men traveling in groups of three and four, wearing new sneakers or hiking boots and carrying nothing but backpacks.

"Altar! Naco! Nogales!" taxi dispatcher Javier Montaño shouted outside the airport as he directed travelers to vans headed to the main staging grounds for illegal border crossers.

Because of the increased traffic, Mexican immigration agents now check the IDs of all arriving passengers, even on domestic flights, to try to catch Central American migrants headed to the border. In Hermosillo, federal police conduct spot checks on the vans before they leave the airport.

"By law, we can't stop the Mexican (migrants)," police Officer Carlos Zequera Arias said. "But the Central Americans are starting to get on these flights, too."

Falling prices

Until the flood of discount airlines began in 2005, air travel in Mexico was too expensive for most poor Mexicans. A one-way flight from central Mexico to Tijuana ran $300 or more on the country's two flag carriers, Aeromexico and Mexicana.

For most migrants, getting to the border meant days of travel on long-distance buses - or for the very poor, a harrowing and illegal ride on Mexico's railways while clinging to a freight car.

The discount airlines cut costs by copying the business model of U.S. carrier Southwest Airlines. They fly out of smaller airports, make several stops on the same trip, bypass travel-agent fees by selling directly to customers, and concentrate on a few high-volume routes instead of a hub-and-spoke system.

Typical fares to Tijuana from Toluca, just east of Mexico City, are now around $150 on the discount airlines.

That has opened up air travel to millions of new customers, said José Calderoni, marketing director for Volaris. About one-third of the airline's passengers have never flown before, he said.

Overall, the number of Mexicans flying has jumped 36 percent since 2004. About 13.4 million people took domestic flights from January to June, according to Mexico's Institute of Statistics, Geography and Information Processing.

The discount airlines have been adding planes and routes at a breakneck pace. Avolar has grown from one jetliner and three destinations to nine with 16 destinations. Viva Aerobus has 21 destinations and plans to double its fleet to 10 jets from five. Interjet has nine planes and says it will order 20 more. Alma has 15 regional jets and 25 destinations, Volaris has 12 planes and 17 destinations, while Click has 26 destinations with 18 planes and six on order.

A few months ago I saw some bikers riding an awsum machine, which at the time I thought was a quad bike. It certainly looked like a quad bike, but it was flippin' enourmous; it sat two people and had a boot. Does anyone know what this is? Or where to look to buy one? Thank you!

I think you may have seen possibly a bombadier product called an outlander seats two is bigger than most four wheelers (quads) and comes with dumping boxs for gravel or wood . or storage (trunks) for smaller personal things they are fairly big in size look up on net to see if is what you saw/.

Sounds like a trike, not a quad. Quads are four-wheelers, like motocross racers or for hunting, etc. They dont have trunk space.

Trikes, large bikes, two wheels on the back, one up front. They have trunk space on them. Im not aware of any manufacturers that make them, but there are aftermarket companies that take your Honda Goldwing and make it into a trike. Just type TRIKE MOTORCYCLE into Google...you'll find something there!

It would take more time and effort to get them off the books than it would be worth, so we are left with some amusing thoughts about our ancestors and their priorities as compared to our own.

The unfaithful Husband.....

The wife came home early and found her husband in their bedroom making

love with a strange woman. The wife became immediately upset.

"You are a disrespectful pig!" she cried. "How dare you do this to me--a

faithful wife, the mother of your children! I'm leaving you. I want a

divorce right away!"

The husband replied "Hang on just a minute Love, so at least I can tell

So, the husband began -- "Well, I was getting into the car to drive home

from work and this lady here asked me for a ride to the shelter.

She looked so down and out and defenseless that I took pity on her and

dressed and dirty. She told me that she hadn't eaten for three days!

So, in my compassion, I brought her home and warmed up the enchiladas I

made for you for dinner last night - the ones you wouldn't eat because

you're afraid you'll put on weight. The poor thing devoured them in

moments..

Since she needed a good clean up, I suggested she jump in the shower,

and while she was doing that I realized her clothes were dirty and full of

holes and weren't worth laundering, so I threw them away.

Since she is about the same size as you are and because she needed

clothes, I gave her those designer jeans that I gave you a couple of

years ago as a 'just-because', but you won't use because you say they

aren't the right designer.

I found the pretty blouse my sister gave you for Christmas last year

that you don't use just to annoy her.

I also gave her the underwear that I gave you as a gift on our

anniversary, which you don't use because 'I don't have good taste', and

I also gave her those boots you bought at the expensive boutique and

won't use because someone at work has the same pair."

The husband took a quick breath and continued - "She was so grateful for

my generous compassion and help, as I walked her to the door, she turned

to me with tears of gratitude in her eyes and said, "Please, sir .....do

you have anything else that your wife doesn't use?"

My ode to a personal unsung hero was when I was a young and wild punkrock teen.. I was trying to cut across a major highway and in climbing the chain link fence, my combat boots couldn't get a good toehold - I slipped and pierced my hand straight thru on the wire top.. I then had to pull my hand off, and make it over the fence - and to the highway... No sooner had I put out my shirt-wrapped bloody hand to hitch a ride than a guy pulled over.

He happend to be a volounteer St. John's ambulance man, made sure I kept my hand eleveated and pressured - drove me to a hospital and gave my broke-ash 20 bucks to cab home. Refused my protestations or offers to mail him money back and drove away.

I guess this is my way of thanking this total stranger, Good Samaritan some 20 years later – and reminding us all how easy it is to make a real and positive difference to a stranger..

People often ask me, "If you are so against the war and couldn't stand

the army, why did you ever join in the first place?" I have answered

the same every time, that perhaps I was naïve, that I wanted a chance

to see the world and earn college money. Or that I felt trapped in a

dead-end town and needed a chance to escape, or that I was curious to

live life as a soldier and gain military knowledge. These answers are

never enough for some people, yet so many young Americans end up in

the military the same exact way.

I understand that I joined just prior to September 11, 2001. Indeed, I

was naïve then to think that we lived in a somewhat peaceful world.

Soldiers at that time joined for other reasons. Maybe soldiers who

join now are ones who want to fight in a war. After much personal

debate, I have learned that my resistance to war and empire was forged

by the army itself. Since the very beginning of my four year military

experience, I was simply a very different soldier.

In basic training, instead of attending church service with the rest

of the privates for two hours of relaxation, I was in the barracks

mopping the floors and cleaning toilets. I would not fake a belief in

god for petty rewards.

While other soldiers were marching in rank and file to eat chow, I was

off to the side, being smoked by a drill sergeant--doing pushups and

flutter-kicks--for refusing to yell out cadence like a dopey high

school cheerleader.

As time went by, it never got any easier. I had a very hard time with

the concept of conformity.

While other soldiers in the barracks were watching porno's and hitting

the beer bong with their frat-buddies, I was sitting on my bunk in a

dark corner of a room reading Noam Chomsky.

Instead of spending endless hours spit-shining my boots or ironing my

BDU's, I was playing punk riffs on my guitar or perhaps writing poetry.

I would routinely skip out on company "mandatory fun days" and go back

to my room and sleep. Beetle Bailey was my hero.

Instead of spending every weekend going to the same mundane hip-hop

clubs and discos, starting fights and trying to get laid, I was

backpacking across Europe with other like-minded friends. We traveled

way beyond the limits that a mileage pass would allow. We were openly

learning about other cultures, exploring a great unknown, and living

life to the fullest while we had it.

Instead of hating Iraqis for their strange ways and resentful

behavior, I was trying to imagine the world in which they lived, even

before an unwelcome US occupation forced them to live in a war zone.

While other soldiers were bragging about how many hajis they had waxed

in the last engagement, I was carefully pondering what the longtime

ramifications would be for such inane bloodshed.

Instead of coming back from missions and going straight to the

PlayStation, I was writing what I saw and how I felt on this blog.

It is true that I was a very different breed in the army. However,

there were others like me. We were far and few between, we were

misfits in an olive-drab green hell. We solidified, became friends,

and became brothers. Most of the soldiers in my platoon were this way,

outcasts. We opposed the war, sometimes openly. We were never

persecuted for our beliefs because, although we were angry, we were a

whole. We were a group of covert-subverts and our chain of command

hated it.

I came home from Iraq and was awarded combat spurs, a glorious

achievement for a cavalry scout. I contemplated the true meaning of

these spurs, this icon of war. Spurs that were worn by soldiers on

horses; who rode with General Custer and decimated the American Indian

population. Spurs painted with the blood of five major wars of the

20th century, some wars to fight empire and others to promote it. What

would I do with these spurs? I decided to hold on to them. They meant

much more than archaic tradition and a turbulent history. Somehow they

meant comradery and friendship. My brothers-in-arms and I had earned

them together, and they symbolize a token of deep understanding of a

past we will share together, until the day we die.

Today's public thinks that every American soldier fighting in Iraq

supports the war and that his/her morale and trust in command is very

high. However, in my experience, this was simply not true. I

encountered dissent on many levels (For one example, see post below:

Free Speech for Soldiers, Sept.21, 2004). Even soldiers who supported

the army and loved their job hated being in a conflict they could not

understand. Some soldiers did understand, and were resentful for it.

The morale for the majority of our brigade was relatively low. I

rarely met anyone who wanted to fight in Iraq, and the only ones who

truly wanted to stay were the high echelon officers who seemed more

concerned about their careers than the overall mission.

Some may wonder where these disgruntled soldiers are. I believe that

they are a part of every social fabric of our country. I've certainly

met more angry veterans than I have boastful ones. Some missing limbs,

some missing friends, others missing innocence. Angry and confused.

Cannot find the healthcare they need. Cannot find jobs. Can no longer

find a place to fit in our society.

Some of these soldiers are still in the military and fear

repercussions of speaking out. Soldiers who served several missions in

Iraq and want no more. Soldiers tied to the war machine with no hope

of escape. They wait for their day of freedom, hoping to avoid another

stop-loss. They want out before death takes them first.

So many silent voices and whispered stories. I know one veteran who

refuses to talk about his experience because he thinks no one will

understand and it won't change anything anyways. Another veteran I

know candy-coats his experience so he won't disappoint his

conservative family members. These soldiers are everywhere, but choose

to remain silent because they fear ostracism from a war crazed,

jingoistic public. The media plays with everyone's mind, convincing

everyone that everything is okay as long as you trust in the

government's overall plans for victory in Iraq. But when one asks a

veteran for the truth, this optimistic fairy tale of ultimate victory

seems a hard pill to swallow.

I am not trying to speak for every soldier and veteran. I know that

there are those out there who support the war effort and feel good

about being in Iraq. However, in my experience, I have not met too

many who feel this way. There is a rising tide of antiwar sentiments

growing in this country. Fifty-two percent of America now feels it was

not worth going to war with Iraq, while fifty-eight percent disapprove

of Bush's handling of the war, and now a whopping fifty-three percent

actually support a Bush impeachment. (CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll/Zogby

Poll. Jan. 6-8, 2006). One would have to wonder how these polls might

look if more and more soldier accounts were brought to the public's

attention. There is a truth that lies buried under the Pentagon

propaganda machine and the misinformation provided by corporate media

and a dishonest administration, and that truth lies in the experience

of combat soldiers.

In the end I know that my experience may have been different, or that

maybe I was a very different kind of soldier. But it was the army that

molded my contempt for authority and distrust of a feudalistic

government that pulls the strings. Through my army involvement I met

others like me who felt much of the same way. We were dissidents, but

never un-American. On the contrary, we knew the difference between

following orders and thinking for ourselves. Ultimately, there is no

difference between love for one's country and the willingness to

oppose a government that institutes war, fear and oppression on any

level. There are many soldiers and veterans who share the same

feelings as me and others I met along the way. Some are even in the

ranks of the military. Someday all the soldiers will come home and

when they do, their stories and sentiments will follow. Only then will

a better understanding of the truth be known.

As a former soldier i can agree with parts of the letter. I dont think that it is fair, or safe to assume that most young people who join the military are naive,I joined after Sept. 11, so i knew what was to come. i wasnt in a dead-end town, i didnt need the college money. i joined because after Sept. 11 happend i felt that it was what i was supposed to do, my dad, my grandfather serviced this country, so it was a questioin of "if they did it then why shouldnt i". i admit that it was hard to conform to what they wanted, to change my way of thinking and adpot theirs(i dont think i ever did). i wanted to speak out, and say i didnt agree with this, or i didnt agree with that. In the begining i was afraid, i didnt want my follow soldiers to think that i was different from them. so i didnt speak my mind, i was always the quite one, but as time went on and my military career grew i realized that i was going about it all wrong. the reason the military is what it is today is because we have soldiers who speak their minds, who arent afraid to say things, who are not afraid of change. the military needs this, if we just had robots then no one could lead when they needed them to, no one could step up and take charge in a deadly situation. i dont agree with the war, i never have and never will, but to me, its not a question of if you agree with the war or not as a soldier. its who will protect my family,the freedoms that i take advantage of as an American,its will you support, will you protect your follow soldier who has gone through basic training, who has been through all the bull**** that you have, that soldier who stands by you, even the "disgruntaled soldiers", its about the bond that you and your follow soldiers have and no one else can understand. no civilan can understand what a soldier goes thourgh, what they have been though, thats a secert shared by only the soldiers and no one can take that away from them.i may not agree with everyting the letter says, but as i follow soldier i understand it and i can respect it. i say bravo to J.D. Englehart for writing this letter, for saying what is on is mind and so many other soldiers. to me this is what American needs, to hear different truths and realize even as a soldier you do have an opinion.

Jumping my mare?

I have a 17 year old paint mare.Ive rode and shes been mine since i was probably about 6.I've been training her in jumping,barrel racing,pole bending,keyhole,and flags and she is excelling.She has taken home multiple seconds and a few wins.She is currently jumping about 3 1/2 feet and obviously loves it.She is extremely danger prone so she has her entire legs covered completely by boots and we usually jump bareback but are beginning with a saddle. She always takes off too early for a jump and ends up with 6 foot leaps because she is 3/4 of the way blind and her depth perception is off.she also has an old tendon injury and cant properly flex her leg but feels no pain from it.She loves to jump so much i was sitting on the ground once and she took off over the jump without me!I want to let her jump higher but am concerned for her safety. is it safe to continue training?i also dont need grief for her age. she is extremely muscular and the fittest horse i have.i need advise to continue this

Jumping my mare?
This mare's got a lot of heart, but it takes more than heart to jump. With her diminished eyesight and restricted flexion of the leg, she should not be jumping at all. Someday, she is going to misjudge her distance and her leg is not going to give her enough support for the jump, and she is going to seriously injure herself, maybe even fatally!
Reply:it depends if it is still safe to train her but you have to make the decision if you think its safe then keep it up if you think its not safe then maybe stop
Reply:Her age has nothing to do with it! You can't jump a horse that can't see what she's supposed to go over. I certainly wouldn't jump her 3 and 1/2 feet! She sounds like a great mare with lots of trust in you so please stop putting her in harm's way.

Reply:I don't know about her age, but if your horse is really half blind and has leg problems I wouldn't jump her while you're riding.

You can't really know that she loves it, just because she takes off over a jump doesn't mean she likes to. My mare does the same thing, but that's because she hates it and wants to get it over with as quickly as possible when she thinks I want her to jump.

If her eyesight and her depth perception are bad, that just makes it even worse. Because horses can't see jumps normally. They can't see anything that's right in front of them because of where their eyes are set in their head. So not only can she not see it when she's jumping over it, she can't see it before or after or judge where it is.

If you keep jumping her one day she's going to get seriously hurt.

Flow binding instructions?

I just got my new Flow m9 bindings. I have them all sorted out mostly but I cant figure out how to make the highback release into the reclined position where i can slip my boot in and then snap them into place. how do I do this, as they are locked in the riding position?

From what I understand, all you need to do is find the latch on the backs, (the piece that sticks out slightly from the rest of the back and towards the top is probably it), and pull back on it. From the one i just pulled on in the store, it seemed like it took a lot of effort. That should allow the latch to come down, giving the cables the slack they need for the backs to come down.

What is THE WARMEST clothing for EXTREMELY

cold and windy weather?

Fur (what sort)? Leather? Synthetics (what sort)?

IMPORTANT:

I ride a motorcycle

even when it's well under 30°C.

At 60 mhp the wind chill can make it as if it were

as low as -10°C with the wind cutting you to the core.

And when your just siting on the bike you don't generate

much body heat (little movement).

I think I may need

mittens (made of ?), boots (made of ?),

underwear/base layer (made of ?), insulating layer/s

(made of ?), and a outer or shell layer/coat (made of ?)

made for a place like ANTARCTICA in bad weather

(-89.4°C/-129°F with hi winds).

I nearly don't care what it looks like.

I just don't want to be cold.

What to were for EXTREMELY cold and windy weather?
Take it from an old/cold weather rider, it is NOT worth it. Sooner or later you realize that, what in the WORLD are you freezin your butt off for? Too look cool or stand out. Well yeah you stand out alright, everyone wonder what THIS morons problem is......

BUT, hey, been there done that, so here it goes: Underwear, normal plus silk long johns. Lots of guys swear by pantyhose, but I would get frostbite before that happens, so one year my ma bought me silk longjohns made by "Wintersilks", I think they're out of business now, but you can find similar. There is higher tech stuff now for winter runners and bicyclists, but something that fits rather snug and is thin. I usually just went for jeans over that, if you are especially cold-blooded you can get normal cotton long johns over the thin layer, then jeans. I used normal high top work boots. If you're really into it you can get insulated boots, just normal lace up boots. I like a pair of these really thick cotton socks, I can't stand wool, but some say wool is warmer and I'd agree as long as you don't stay inside too long before you ride, more on that in a bit. You can wear 2 layers on the feet, "normal" socks then a thicker pair of cotton socks. Upper layers, same thing, silk top for your closest layer, then tee shirt, then layer on what you want too, I didn't get too carried away, because: TA DA! The outer most layer I used a snowmobile suit. Well, it actually is from BMW and made for cycle riding, but essentially it's a 1 piece cold weather riding suit. This is the outemost layer. Has leather in all the places you're most likely to get scuffed up if you go down. Gloves: anything with a nice long gauntlet, Goretex lining. Scarf. I didn't have a helmet liner and did OK without it, but there are different liners and so forth you can find to keep your face warmer, like this:http://sepharus-store.stores.yahoo.net/m... Dual layer visor to keep it from fogging, I never had this but understand that it's da "chit". It's about all I can think of. If you have the elecrical system for it, you can also find heated apparel, this you would put on over your tee shirt, fairly close to the skin, but not ON it. I have a heated vest I used to wear, nice. Beemer has heated grips too, look into those. Reply:Thermal underwear,see the skiing dept. ,Thermal socks, very important because even if you are all bundled up ,cold feet will bring your temp down.Insulated gloves. There are head and face covers similar to ski masks ,but they are sheer and can be worn under a helmet.And layers tend to work well as the more dead air space you have(between layers) the more body heat is trapped.Black leather on the outer layer will capture any heat the sun may give off and be sure zippers are covered by a flap as exposed zippers cause a draft.One last trick check out hunting suppliers or catalogs, they have pocket warming devices that when strategically placed can really be helpful.
Reply:Look at snowboarding/skiing gear for warmth (especially ski masks -- they work wonders!). Always wear your leathers. A few years back a GSXR 750 was my only mode of transportation so I know what you're going through. I was on that bike with below freezing temps, rain, everything... Ride safe!

I have a Gerbing jacket liner. The biggest problem with buying it was kicking myself for not having done it sooner.Makes riding in 5C weather a pleasure, in -20C tolerable. There are other vendors, of course. I don't like heated vests, keeping your arms/neck warm is very important.

Reply:I use synthetic layering such as polypropylene found in UnderArmour Cold Gear. Get the layering from a ski shop or outdoor outfitter. Its thin and layers well under your leathers. The other option is the install electric clothing. It plugs into your bike and has thin wire elements in a vest, pants, gloves and the material produces heat.

Should I wear denim to an interview?

I have an interview today at a motorcycle shop. I ride a bike. I have been going through my closet over and over and the only thing that looks right. and professional is blue jeans, a long sleeve button up shirt and boots (fashion w/ heel)

Would this work?

Reply:Well, you might be able to get away with that interviewing at a motorcycle shop but I wouldn't risk it. I always wear dress slacks, a blouse, heels, and perhaps a suit jacket (probably not necessary in your case) to interviews and then if I get the job, I wear the type of clothes that my co-workers wear. Hello,

My name is Ryan and am 18 years old. I have wanted to learn how to ride a bike for some time now and am just now seriously starting to get into it after some friends of mine who have bikes have been teasing me for so long! hehe...

I have concluded that I do not want a high displacement bike as my first one, as I don't want something that I cannot learn on properly. Reading around, I have found out a Ninja 250 is a good all around bike for a new rider, and that sounds nice. Iam 6' 225pds, so I dont know if I will fit on it hehe, I never saw any information pertaining to size.

So to round it all up, I have all my safety gear on order, jacket, boots, gloves, a pad for my back, helmet, and pants. I need some ways to go on which bikes to look at and compare, as well as which ways are best to learn. Courses, subdivision, DMV course thats abandoned at school in the week? etc..

Thank You in advance and am sorry to ask such a redundant question.

I would definitely say try to find a really nice used bike that is pretty cheap. Being a beginner you will have a real high chance of making a mistake and anybody would feel a lot worse if they laid down their new bike rather than something less nice. I would say ride this for at least a year no matter how well you think your skills have become.

For somebody your size a 250 is definitely a little too small. I started out on a 250 and I only weigh about 140 and I thought I was crawling. I would suggest going for something that has around a 500 or 600. It's a good idea to to go online and check out what exactly you are looking for to get a good idea of what's out there. The next step is to go to your local dealerships and check out what kind of used bikes they have there, maybe you'll find something. It actually took me about 2 1/2 years to find the bike I was looking for and was able to afford. (started looking when I was about 18, bought just this past September just before my 21st bday) That is another big question you have to ask yourself...what can you afford. If money is not an option for you though then ignore everything I have said and buy exactly what you want brand new...even go for something a little bigger like a 1000cc. What ever you do though be careful. Even though there are a lot of riders out there that ride crazy and dangerously, the biggest killer of motorcycle riders is the other drivers on the road. Always ride as if you were invisible and nobody else can see you. Here are a few links to some manufacturer web sites. All three make really good bikes so really it's just about what style and size you are looking for.

Reply:Sounds like you have it pretty much together already. I don't have much to add to any of the answers already posted but I thought I would throw some bike choices out there.

Suzuki DL650 V-Strom. Smooth bike and it can be set up for touring. Does well in the mountians also.

Suzuki SV 650 - sportier stripped down version of the DL.

Kawasaki KLR 650 if you want to do some dirt/gravel road exploring.

These are one the cheap end of the specturm

If you actually find the bike that "does" it for you with in the first two I'd be surprised. I'm on my fifth bike in 4 years and still haven't found the one.

Reply:sounds like you do not need much advice. Your thinking is sound, and the question has all the answers in it. Small displacement, a CHEAP USED bike ( you do not want to drop an expensive one, and you will drop it) and a good beginners course followed by practice in a subdivision. Reply:i was 6'3" and 250lbs when i tried to ride a crotch rocked and it was so uncomfortable their was no way you mite want to look into a cruiser to and most states have a beginners class for biking you just have to ask the courthouse if their is any in your area
Reply:Ninja 250, is too small for someone your size, you'll be seriously done with it in a week.

I would recommend something at least 600cc but not the racing style R6, GSXR or the ZXRR they are NOT beginner bikes. I always give the same advice take a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) course. I have raced MX, and I have even road raced on a Yamaha R6 and an R1, I have ridden both in 6 gear tapped out on the track and on the R1 that's 175mph. I had to get my motorcycle license so I took the course to make my buddy happy and to get my street license (only road tracks) and I learned some techniques that I had never used.

If I can get something out of it with 20+ years of experience riding and racing then I know that you can benefit immensely. If you are spending money on the equipment don't cheap out on this it will help your gear and your bike look nicer for longer.

Okay I have a few questions

1. Can I use my practice not leather boots?

2. Can I use my practice black close contact for this year showing? I got it 2-3 weeks ago and ride once a week. I won't show untill July.

If you're showing locally/4-H those boots and a black saddle are perfectly fine. You can always upgrade your tack in the future.
Reply:1. yes you can, but they are not the correct style for Hunter or Jumper competitions, if you are doing lower level shows, they should be fine

2. It should be comfortable and easy to ride in, (well broken in and well oiled) if it is then go ahead and show in it, but at higher level competitions, brown is a better choice than black. Just be sure all your tack (and boots!!) are clean and in good condition!!
Reply:yes those boots will be fine, just make sure that you wear breeches with them and long socks.

as long as you are clean and tidy you should be ok. generally only children wear short boots and chaps in shows and adults wear long boots.

you can normally use any colour tack on your horse unless the show class specifies that you have to meet certain requirements, and always with a clean sadle cloth underneath the saddle

Reply:These kind of boots are used for hunt-seat showing, so unless your showing hunt-seat I recommend different boots. You can find them in practically any tack store, I got mine at state-line tack which can be found in many petsmart's, but I live in Arizona.

YOUR BOOTS: Hunt-Seat/Jumping

English Boots: Saddle-Seat, Flat Saddle, etc,.

Western Boots: Obviously Western Riding

Reply:it depends on the type of show you're going to be in. if you're just going to a schooling show then yes they both should be fine, although from my experience black saddles should only be used for dressage, however if you're in a schooling show it should be fine. if its anything larger than a schooling show i would use a leather saddle.
Reply:If you're just doing small local shows, you could probably get away with it. It would also depend on what classes you're doing... if you're doing jumpers, it won't be a problem at all since it's not a judged event and all that they care about is that your tack is safe and show legal. Hunters, however, are much more picky and depending on the judge you might not do as well. It's a silly thing to get upset over the color of a saddle but some judges do anyway.

You might want to see if you can borrow a different color saddle for showing until you're able to buy a show saddle of your own, and consider investing in leather boots as soon as possible.

So I am starting to ride western a lot and my horse is mainly western trained. My question is what do you wear as bottoms for a western show? I already have a shirt picked out and I can buy boots. and I have a hat picked out. But do I just show in jeans? or black jeans? or jeans with chaps?

Read the 2 top ones first. This gives you tips about what to wear. There are times, like the eve you wear dark, more dressed up clothes. Different colors of hats that can cast a dark hue on your face. The different types of chaps. Your hair should always in a bun. Stuff like that.

Reply:I started out with black jeans, then I got chaps and now I have real western show pants. Depending on the types of shows you will be going to, different things will be "expected". For example, jeans are fine at a fair, but at a open show you will see more show pants for a cleaner look.
Reply:Jeans or black jeans whichever matched the shirt best. chaps can be more than just for show. Chaps help you grip onto the horse better. That one of the reason bronc and bull riders wear them.

Do i need to do anything else to my jeep so i dont break anything with a 4" lift?

i just got a 4" lift with

*Front and Rear easy ride Leaf Springs

*Front and Rear U-Bolts

*Bump Stop Snubbers

*Front and Rear Track Bar Brackets

*Power Steering Pitman Arm

*Transfer Case Lowering Kit

*4 Hydro 8000 Shocks (with black boots)

*Extended Sway Bar Links

And i was just wondering if I i need to get a slip yoke eliminator or a new front traction bar or something like that. But i just dont want to rub or anything. I was also thinking about shackles for about another 2". I really just want to know everything.

Do i need to do anything else to my jeep so i dont break anything with a 4" lift?
ya i would say go with the slip yoke eliminator and a new longer drive shaft that way you dont blow those up or your t-case. but other then that since you have a YJ theres really nothing else. oh and if you dont have one already a steering stabilizer kit will be good too not necessary but its cheap and will help from your steering from wobbling.

finally about your shackles id do it just make sure your shocks are long enough for the added flex you can get with the 2" and if you get the drive shaft make sure you get that after you decide on the added 2" shackles.

oh and dont forget to change out your gears as well since you will probably be putting 35s with the 6"

another 2 inches...maybe.

You need to think about the added weight and if you increase tire size you will lose a little power...work on balancing it all out...(10.5X31 rub a little on my girlfriends YJ) but you learn not to turn it that far...

May need a gear change, free up the exhaust, increase airflow, etc.

quick releases for the sway bar up front will give you more wheel travel, too...
Reply:jeeps are built for offroading, and you really upgraded it, good job :), 33" to 35" clear you enough but if you get any "battle scars" (broken stuff) just fix it, it comes with the territory, or as we say "It's a Jeep Thing"
Reply:ok sounds good so far. now if you do the shackles then i would do the SYE and a CV drive shaft.

i have a 95 with a pro comp 4" and 33's and i have no vibs at all from it but if i would go any further with the lift i would also do the SYE and CV.

So by doing the 2" shackles to get 35's under then do the SYE and CV. but if doing 35's then RE-GEAR it now to 4:10s or 4:56s or 4:88s

as far as trac bars go ... if you plan on driving it on the road the install them, you wont have that much body roll and if going that much high i would sugest it.

dont forget about the brake lines!!!!!!!!!!

Reply:Going higher will need to make caster modification.

Your stock axles will let you ride on 35" tires only in mid wheeling.

Check what is your gear ratio before buying tires. You might need to re-gear or buying smaller tires in order to mantain certain wheeling capabilities.

A definite yes on SYE and CV driveshaft.
Reply:Everyone here has given great advice, but I found out the hard way, that a lift like yours puts a lot of pressure on the axles! If you put 35's on it, expect to go through a few axles. You need to balance your Jeep out. Upgrade the axles before you break something. Either change the gear ratio or put in Dana 44 or Dana 60's (both expensive)

With oversized tires, don't plan on using 5th gear anymore, or if it's an automatic, it will probably be very sluggish.

The Jeep 4.0 is great for low torgue when offroading, but again, you have to keep the axles in mind. Don't push it to hard.

Hoof cracking problem???

Hi,

I have a 1/2 perceron cross that is at my farm for my dad to ride once or twice a week. anyway,she has very short feet because she was neglected and they got all chipped out and long. So we trimmed them, but she is not shod. Her feet now always get cracks in them between farrier visits. Sometimes it makes her lame a little so i am sorta worried. I have the farrier out every 6 weeks to do her feet. I would prefer not to shoe her since she sometimes hits herself and is a trail horse so it is hard for her to wear boots (plus it is expencive, not that i wouldn't do it if it was nessisart!!) any advice would be appreciated!! thanx

Hoof cracking problem???
Hi,

Have been discussing this with my farrier as I too have unshod horses. His answers were a hoof hardener that can be found at most equine stores (not sure where you are so can't suggest anything at the moment) and a simple trick with a file.

He uses a coarse file to make a slight groove across the top of the split. This stops the crack running further. It is similar to the way you stop a crack running in metal by drilling a hole at the end.

If a simple groove doesn't stop it then he files a diamond shape at the top of the split with the angled sides running down to the top of the crack.

Take care not to cut too deep into the hoof as this would clearly cause pain.

Reply:they make hoof supplements and hoof conditioners that you can feed or apply directly to the horses hoof that helps with the cracking. You can usually find these products at horse stores or farm supply stores.

Reply:Sorry but if you have a horse that has problems with hoof cracks it is very necessary that she have shoes on if even just long enough to make the hoofs healthy again, also are you using hoof flex everyday to add moister to the hooves. You must condition them everyday if possible and do not ride her until the cracks get better. Sorry we had a mare that had bad fett we had to have shoes done every 4 weeks!!!! But after her feet got better we could go longer and sometime we did not have to shoe her. Also the shoe will protect her feet better for trail riding
Reply:I know your using hoof dressing but I find that most aren't as good as they let on (I tried a lot). I now use a product called Hoof Flex and I apply it one - two times a day depending how dry it is out side.

Hoof Flex encourages hoof growth, it well help grow out those soft hooves. When i got my Appendix QH he had the same problem (because of neglect)

Reply:One of the best things to use is formaldehyde mixed with copper crystals. We call it bluestone and we used it for TB weanling and yearling sales prep so that they would walk out well and not be foot sore without shoes with all the repeated showings. Works so well and is very cheap to make. Just apply with a paint brush, wear gloves and don't get it on the hair. Makes the feet hard as nails and keeps them in good shape.
Reply:My farrier has put my horse on a special diet. Well, kind of. I have a really good farrier who tests all products on his own animals before suggesting them to anyone. I have an American Thoroughbred, a breed notorious for weak hoof wall. Now, I'm not suggesting your horse has this same problem, but it might help. Try getting either Horseshoers Secret or grand hoof. Grand hoof is the better of the two, but the more expensive. They help build a stronger hoof wall, not thicker, because that can't be done, but it will make the hoof denser and less likely to collapse or crack. Also because it is so hot and dry here, I use a paint on hoof conditioner. There are also supplements you can feed your horse (I think corn oil might be one of them). Horseshoers Secret comes in pellet form and Grand Hoof comes in powder. Though Grand Hoof is more expensive, it does last you a long time since you aren't feeding a large amount of the concentrate powder to your horse. My Horseshoers Secret works really well and last at least a month with the average size bucket. You should be able to get either at your local feed store. Hope that helps. (It would be a good idea since you don't want to do shoes, also, ask your farrier about barefeet trims, I don't know much about them, but I've heard they are a certain way of trimming the hoof of horses that are trail ridden but not shod.)
Reply:You said you're putting dressing on but which kind are you putting on? Make sure it doesn't have pine tar in it as that dries them out. I suggest using Hoof Heal by Cut Heal. It moisturizes and works like a dream! I used this on a mare that we took the shoes off because I prefer going natural on their feet. (She had shoes her whole riding career and I took them off, used this and she had better feet then with the shoes.) She was rode on gravel roads and had cracks from dry feet with her shoes. While using the Hoof Heal, take a rasp and file a line parralel to the ground above the crack. This stops the crack from going further up. Good luck :)
Reply:Your horse needs shoes. Why are her feet so short if shes no longer abused and the farrier comes out on a regular basis? Let her feet grow out a little bit and this might help the problem. Just because your farrier is worried about her loosing the strength her hooves once had is not an excuse to not shoe her. She obviously doesn't have the strength in her hooves that she once had because she was abused. My older horse used to have for shoes in the summer and then have them off in the winter. My other horse however has to have four shoes all year round because he needs corrective shoeing. I would definetly consider shoeing her, also if she hits her self put bell boots on her. One of my horses(the one with four shoes) is VERY clumsy and has scars from where he has stepped on himself. He has four bell boots on and it has not been an issue since. They make bell boots in draft sizes so you should be fine. Goodluck and I hope everything works out!

Reply:I would recommend not shoeing your horse, you'll only drag out the problem. Yes, it would be an immediate fix, but as soon as the shoes are removed, the problem would resume.

You should consider a 'natural hoof trim'. I'm giving you a link to how this is done that you may want to read and also pass on to your farrier. This has worked on many horses for me and I have absolutely no issues. Read the articles (multiple pages) and let us know what you think. Afterall, if it doesn't work for your horse (which I'm sure it will) you can always resort to shoes later on.

I am looking at a snowboard it has flow bindings and k2 illiusionist board 164 length and Salomon Boots! I was wondering if this board is too big and i have size 12 feet. And how well is all this stuff? I want to ride park later on in my snowboarding experience.

Oh where to start... First, it's the K2 Illusion, no ist and it is a quality entry level board from K2 that came in wide and standard for a hand-full of seasons but is no longer offered (you didn't say if yours was wide or not but it says on the sidewall and on the topsheet if you don't know). If you're just getting started there is really no need for you to have a board that long. It'll be so much harder to learn how to turn than necessary. And don't believe for a second that just because a board is wide it's going to absolutely be hard to turn. Thats rubbish. What matters is the side cut (how much does the board taper inward between the tail and tip and where is the most narrow point? middle, 1-2 deg back?) . SOME wides are hard to turn and others are not, it depends. A shorter board will be easier for you to learn on and will lend itself better to days in the park.

Next, you need to stay far far far away from flows for two reasons. One, your feet are too big for it to retain the "ease of entry" that they were intended to provide but even more importantly, they are poor quality bindings that are heavy which won't hold up to park abuse nor assist you in being able to properly hold your foot in place.

Finally, Salomon makes much better ski gear than their snowboard gear and their boots are no exception. While it's not the worst that you could do in this catagory it's far from the best.
Reply:164 is too short. If you really want to impress the bunnies around the mountain, stomp down some tricks with a +200 board.
Reply:164 will be too big for you, Unless all you are going to do is ride powder. Your maneuverability on groomed runs will be poor compared to a 159 (which is what I would go with…especially if you want to get into park one day.). The highest I would go If I was you is a 161. A 159 to 161 will give you good response on the groomers and still keep you on top of the powder.

As far as Flow bindings go, I do not recommend them. Some people will stand by them, but as a board shop tech, They need to be repaired way too much. The strap ins will last longer, not freeze, and keep your boots secure (especially in the park!!!)

As far as boots go I don’t have much to say, I’ve never ridden Solomon, but Solomon is a good brand

Also, you do not necessarily need a wide board. i am 6'1''... 175 lbs....and size 12 boot and all my boards are regular. my smallest board is a 131, and my biggest is a 159.

Reply:Unless you want to have to buy another board when you start riding park, this board will be way too big. Also, I'm not sure if you're just a begginer or maybe been snowboarding 1 season... but if you still can't carve I would recomend a shorter board also.. It would be far easier to learn on. I'm about 6' and weigh about 160 and wear a size 13, so anything I ride you could essentially.. to give you an idea, I ride a lot in the park and have a 155 midwide board, stay away from "wide" board as much as you can because they will make snowboarding far more difficult than it has to be.. I recomend a midwide, but if you find a good deal on a regular width board, you can always get "risers" (they go under your bindings and lift them up to stop toe dragging). If you're a begginer (approx 1 year or less, or can't carve) I say that if you dont mind falling a ton right away, the 161 will be fine once you get the hang of it, but if you plan on doing mostly park riding within the next couple years and want something a little easier to start on stay around the 156 range and get risers for non park, or a midwide board for park.
Reply:The lengh of the board is fine, even 162 will do, but with size 12 feet, you also have to consider the width of the board. Even with adjusted bindings if the width is too small, your toes will be sticking out and you will be getting more snow between bindings and boots and, most importanly, you could hurt yourself while making a turn or a stop.

OK. I have to go up to pick up dog food today. * Canidae All Life Stages * and I was going to bring one of the dogs with me.. I am not sure which to bring along for the ride.. My older girl who LOVES the car, and gets to go most often.. Or my puppy.

Older dog is 8.5 Years, Puppy is 7.5 weeks

Reply:I to would leave the puppy at home or you will have to carry him around the whole time. Puppy's should not be taken to places that other dogs have been until 1 week after their last set of shots has been give at about 12 to 14 weeks. This is for the puppies own safety, Hope this helps!!

Reply:Well... I'd take them both. But the puppy's feet would NEVER touch the ground (frankly, if it was a short trip and the weather wasn't an issue I would leave the pup in a crate in the vehicle). If its too warm I would leave them both home... cooked dogs are not fun... and neither are heat-brain-damaged ones.

I travel with my pups all the time. But only leave them alone in vehicles for very short (less than 10 min) periods of time and only when the weather is cooperative. New experiences for pups are great.

Hiking boots.. I think they are more comfie... they are what I wear when I'm seriously training.

I don't think their color really matters... but I bet that puppy is CUTE (I've never seen that young a Dobe). I always thought Sam pups were the cutest (white polarbear fuzzballs) until I saw Bernese pups which come with colors (!) and racing stripes (!)....
Reply:Leave your dogs at home while you go purchase their dog food. This weather is too hot for them to be in a vehicle.It does not matter what you wear for shoes or clothes as long as you are able to drive comfortably. Just don't forget your wallet or your trip may be wasted.

Reply:The first problem I see in your question is your choice of food. I can not believe everyone missed that!!! I want you to know that that is a horrible choice and you should not believe all the propaganda about dog foods. Just get some Iams or Science Diet because that is what all good vets recommend.

I think you get should get a nice big purse and take the puppy because everyone knows that puppies need to meet and greet everyone, including other dogs so that they will become socialized. Plus, it is the latest style to tote the dog around as a fashion accessory. You do not want to be thought of as old fashioned, do you? 1 shot should be enough for protection.

You have a new puppy isn't it about time to get rid of the old ones? That is what most people do when they get a new puppy, out with the old, in with the new. You must keep up with the times, we are in the new millennium, keep that in mind when you have to make decisions.

Why didn't you get a white or blue Doberman? They are sooooo cute!!!

You will definitely need to wear running shoes to keep up with the puppy and I like the colors of your clothes but I think you should pick something that will match your puppy better, it is the newest fashion statement.

Reply:Well, DP, this is a hard one because which ever dog you don't pick will likely attack you in your sleep, I mean, they ARE Dobermans and their brains swell and make them go crazy.

Anyway, I would pick the older dog because if you make the puppy mad, it can not do as much damage.

I would wear the running shoes, cause it's summer still. In two weeks it will be fall and time for the hiking boots.

DP - Don't EVER braid your hair when shopping for dog food. The braid pulls too tight on your head and you can't think straight and end up paying too much for food, when Ol' Roy will do the job just fine.

I am a vet, and I ALWAYS suggest Science Diet food. It is packed with healthy stuff like corn, wheat, soy and by-products - all stuff that is good for dogs.

Remember, No braid, and Science Diet!!

Reply:If your puppy has had all its shots than I would bring her. You'll want to get her use to riding in cars so trips won't be hard for both of you later on. The earlier you start the better and it's also important to socialize her at the young age too. Pet friendly places like some parks and pet stores are perfect.

Reply:Presuming the pup has her first shots, I would take her, holding her and letting her take in the sights, wouldn't allow people to pet her, I would not take both as my brain doesn't do two dogs going different directions, one baby, one adult trying to huck some dog food into my cart...LOL

I take my pups out of the house all the time, starting about 5 weeks in the car to drop kids at school, then as they get a little older to other "dog safe" places where they aren't getting germs (no parks, beaches) until they get the second round of shots at least... have a 7 1/2 and 8 1/2 week set of pups right now, and they take turns going places. The big ones aren't left behind, they go out at night to get a movie at blockbuster...sometimes, a pup will go along, but the big one then has to wait in the car. Also, have at least two of my kids tagging along with me and a geezer (father in law) 99% of the time....

Reply:Your puppy presumably hasn't had all its shots yet, so I would take the older dog. Pet store = other dogs and their owners, and you can't trust that everyone is responsible enough to keep their dogs immunized.

I say bring em both, but make sure to carry your puppy in one of those purses for dogs. You know that dogs under 40lbs shouldn't be allowed to walk EVER. So until your puppy hits 40lbs his feet must never touch the nasty ground, he could get rabies or something if they do.

For footwear I'd go with one hiking boot and one running shoe.

Well, actually you have done it all wrong. WHEN you go buy dog food, you are supposed to wear stipper heels. They must be at LEAST 4 inches high, and perferably alos have a platform heel. This gives you the most stability and can serve as a correction tool should the dog that you bring get out of line. A good smack with the stiletto will set any dog straight. If you need to know exactly how much of a "kick" to give them, email me, I would be happy to share.

Now, as for the dogs. We can fix that problem very easily. See, you go get one of those baby sleep sacks, they are cloth and they loop around your body. But since you have to carry the food, what you do is put it on the older dogs body, hanging real low like a giant beer belly and you put the dog in there. That way, the older dog actually carries the younger dog for you. Now, younger dogs tend to jump out, so you gotta make sure you tie em in there real good. And the older dog may walk like it has a stick up its rump but it's all good, unless the older dog decides to take a pee - then you've got a problem. It's okay if the baby sack and the puppy drag along the ground because, well you are only going for food so he/she wont' be dragged for too long.

By the way, I think you are lying to us - I looked at those photos and let's call a spade a spade shall we - those or Rottweiler's. How can you NOT even know what kind of dog you own??!!

And blue pants with a grey shirt? What in the he11 are you thinking. Anyone who knows rottweilers know that they are bred to attack people wearing blue and grey - are you asking to be bitten by your own dogs??!! Sheesh.

Since so many people are concerned about you bringing ALL the dogs, why don't you simply leash them to your bumper, put on your hazard lights and drive real slow like to the vets. That actually kills two birds with one stone because now you don't have to walk em when you get home. Careful on the turns though, unless you have trained them to understand turn signals . . .

And YES you can tooo breed two females together. God how dumb are you? Didn't you know that both dobies and rotties (because I think your dog is a ROTTWEILER) have the ability to change sex - just like frogs! if you have two females, the alpha will actually change into a male and then impregnate your other beta female and then switch back and then your little ***** will be pregnant and you will be on here asking us for help - again!!

Final thought: since you have sooooo many dogs, why don't you save yourself some money and just buy Ol'Roy. I mean, it's just as good as that crap canidae that you are feeding and you can get soooo much more food for the same amount of money.

Okay so I am the new girl this year, from texas (but I am really from NJ, I lived there like my whole life %26amp; he knows ths) and he always askes me questions about it and myself such as:

Hey guys, recently i went to my friends house to ride and i had a look at the 250x. I had trouble getting on it. i could get on it with the stand on basically and i could kinda get 1 foot tippy toeing on that bike. I'm around 5'4. I was wandering if there would be any difference with the 250F and what is the maintenance like for it. If not, would the 125 be better?

I'm pretty sure they still make kx125's cause my local dealer has 08's. Honda is the one that has stopped. I'm gonna be turning 16 before i get a race bike so i dont think ill be able to race the 85's

the kx125 seat height is 94cm. i used a measuring tape and with boots on there is around a 10cm or less distance for the opening of my legs.

The kx125 is also 2cm shorter then the 250f for seat height

from my other answer: any of the full sized bikes, regardless of engine size, are going to be roughly the same seat height ... which is going to be extremely tall for someone of your stature of 5'4" ... at least starting the bike and starts / stops when you need to touch the ground ... or pick up and get back on ...

but with that said, if you are wanting to race MX, I can see your point in not going with the 85/100/150R coming up on 16 y/o... so, any of the 125 2stroke / 250 4 stroke being about the same height, you should be able to put lowering links on to drop the seat height by up to about 2 inches (or 5 cm) to better suit your height ... while not sacrificing too much suspension loss...

Recently I've noticed that my horse, Sonny, is really afraid of my trainer. The problem just started today I believe, or sometime within the last day. I planned on doing a private lesson on Sonny due to he's still not entirely sure about all the horses in the group lesson that I usually attend. He's only been at the stables for a week today but seems to be fine with everything. Well I took him up to the arena, took off his blanket, cleaned his feet, then lundged him around for a while (I haven't been able to ride him as often as I want to, due to weather, school and work). After that I asked my trainer to hold him while I went to get on my boots and helmet. She walked over to Sonny and he backed up really quick and acted as if he was really scared. I calmed him down and then my trainer was able to hold him. But when she went to pet him, his whole body flinched and he started to breath heavier than normal.

Trust issues? Or something else?
ok, this IS a tuffy. BUT! maybe this will help. I once knew a OTTB who's owner was VERY ABUSIVE. She always sreamed at him and hit him with a bat. When he was rehbilitated and gentled he was sold to this woman( friend of mine) and started dressage.everything was fine until one day she came to the barn and he freaked! he whoud't go near her, kicked at her sreamed at her and snaped. when I came to check and went in he was fine with me. My friend was so hurt and so scared she went inside to clam down. I took him out to his turn out and gave him some hay. when I went inside and tood her to come out he calm now she did, she took off her jacket and came out be hind me and we were able to walk up to him with out problem. the situation happened more that day and I was sitting down looking at a photo of him and his former owner and kew what the problem was. His former owner loved the color red and always wore a red jacket. HER jacket ment pain to the horse. so we fixed the problem and asked a vet. He said while horses eyes are ok, they have a great reptitional memory ( means if something is done the same way enough, they remember) good or bad. if a lady in a red coat, or the shape of it, or smell of it, or anything aprocching means hurt, he was rite to act in such way. well, i can't tell you WHAT started it but i can say until you have an idea, desinitize him to your trainer and EVERYTHING SHE WORE OR SMELLED LIKE THAT DAY!
Reply:Well if your trainer has been around your horse without you around, I would suspect she has been mistreating him in some way.

Or, she may have a scent that is frightening him, or just made a false move around him that is causing him to be afraid of her.
Reply:I think your trainer might move in a way Sonny gets scared of like if his previous owner move toward Sonny in a way that he could tell that he was going to get in trouble the trainer might move the same way...Next time the trainer walks toward Sonny try putting a carrot in her pocket or let her hold one.

could he be having problems with his eyes?? he might be a little blind and doesn't recognize her scent...

how does she aproach him? her posture and body language may be intimidating him...

where did you get him from?? did you adopt him? what was his previous owner like when handling him? has he been passed around to many different owners?? how do the employees at the stables handle him? does he spook like that for everyone but you ... or is it just your trainer?

Reply:well there may be something about your trainer that your horse senses but you dont know. she may be a abuseing him when your not there. maybe spy on her when you put on your boots again
Reply:Behavior that starts out of the blue often is your horse trying to tell you something. But it sure can take serious detective work to figure it out sometimes!

Since you have known your trainer long term, you can assume there was no intentional abuse. (That would be my first concern with a new trainer I didn't know). But don't forget - a horse doesn't have to be hurt by something to become afraid of that thing. Example: a horse looking at a tarp when a nearby obstacle falls over and strikes them. Then the horse is scared of the tarp because it was looking at that when it happened. Perhaps Sonny had some recent episode where the trainer, or someone who looks, moves, smells or in someway makes your horse think of the trainer was nearby when he was scared or injured.

Whatever the cause, I think its important that you "sack" out your horse with the trainer so he realizes that he won't be hurt in any way by her, and that he cannot flee or escape her when he chooses. I would do this the same way I would sack out a horse with a plastic bag with noisy pop cans in them. You need to have the trainer approach the horse and have contact with him, and to keep approaching calmly and persistently until the horse stops moving its feet. Then the trainer needs to pause, retreat and allow the horse to get relief before approaching again. I would suggest watching DVDs by Clinton Anderson or Cleve Wells on how to sack out a horse with an object if you don't know the proceedure. If this is a new and not well established behavior it hopefully can be nipped in the bud quickly. If you trust and know this trainer I would even encourage her to roundpen, lunge or work with this horse one on one to get through this period of fear.

Other considerations are - is your horse having pain from saddle fit (perhaps the girth issue) mouth pain, joint soreness or something that could be causing it anxiety. None of us feel trusting and confident when we are uncomfortable already. So if this problem cannot be solved quickly by having your trainer spend a session or two with the horse, it might be important to have him examined by a good vet. Ongoing pain issues could make a mild problem become worse and worse, so I think you're going to want to address this as soon as possible.

And don't forget, your horse has been moved to a new stable very recently. That may in fact be the biggest trigger. He may feel lost and intimidated with a change in enviroment and friends. But you can work through this if you follow a well established routine, and allow your trainer access to the horse (once again, assuming you have a good and trustworthy trainer!)

Reply:As you said all you can do is work together with sonny and the trainer. All it takes is for one person to annoy a horse and they can lose trust. Have your trainer maybe give him a treat while standing there, and slowly rub him all over. Even when sonny moves keep going with the rubbing to show that the trainer isn't going to harm him.
Reply:It sounds like something about your trainer is scaring him. Is she the one that feeds at the barn? She might have done something not realizing it that flashed to a past experience. Something like that is hard to identify. Ask her if he spooked at her for any reason another time, such as feeding or bring him in or turning him out.

Someone I met at a show had a horse that was sold about every two years. She trailered him just fine until she hit the two year mark - and he refused to go into the trailer. She was in the process of working with him when I met her.

It might simply be moving to the place where the trainer is triggered and episode in his earlier life where bad things happened when the owner of the facility was in the riding ring.

The best thing to do is to determine if he spooked at her another time that might have triggered this reaction and work from there. If not, then just work with your trainer to help Sonny overcome his fear of her.
Reply:That's really weird... maybe it was just a once off thing? See if Sonny does it again next time. If he does, then get your trainer to do nice things to Sonny like feed him treats to help him get over his fear.
Reply:maybe the horse senses negative energy and does the trainer ever work with him when your not there? or if not , its possible the trainer does come when your not there and does 'stuff' not necessarily "working" with him . maybe its best if you get another trainer
Reply:The horse my be letting you know that he is being abused by the trainer you do know a horse seance fear maybe she is in fear that you will catch her abusing your horse and he knows it

Calf reduction techniques?

I am a female that is 5 ft 10 inches tall and I am pretty athletic. I workout all the time and eat healthy. I love my bod except for my calves and ankles. My inseam is about 35/36 inches so my legs are really long, but they look so short because they are so big. I know it is not fat, and instead it is all muscle. When I stand on tippy toes I can see all my calf muscles and they are ripped. The are so big though and do not match my body at all. Does anyone know a way to slim them (calves and ankles) down? I already know the calf raises. I also ride my bike all the time and skate and also swim from time to time. I am so uncomfortable wearing shorts or skirts because of what they look like and I always catch people doing double takes on my calves and it makes me feel really self conscious. Also, I can't wear any knee high boots because non will fit over the top of them!

Has anyone heard of any surgery or workouts that will slim them down??

I was in gymnastics and am in the same boat as you - but I have shorter legs, and I think my legs look terrible because they are muscular. I am 32 years old, and the muscle has not gone away - and I haven't done gymnastics for 15 years. My only suggestion is this - maybe take up swimming for your aerobic workout and don't do any kind of leg exercises with weights. That might help to make your calves look not so big. Also do lots of stretches for you calves, it may have enlongate your muscles so they don't look so big. Good luck.

I think they can do surgery where they cut out some of your muscle, but that doesn't sound safe to me.
Reply:Maybe you should stop biking or doing anything that makes your calves big and muscular.
Reply:Stop exercising so much. Also if you say ur calves are bulky stretch them and try to make em less stiff

Aluminum vs. plasic strap snowbaord bindings?

I grew out of my boots and bindings this year and i don't really know what too look for in buying bindings. I've previously had ones from ride, i'm pretty sure they were the LXh. I've been told that aluminum is too stiff to work as well as plastic, but they're more durable, which works better?

look at the binding and try and determine if it was cheaply made or if its made to last. if you are only going snowboarding once a year than you can get at least 3 or 4 years out of a cheap set of bindings(if you dont grow out of them first), but if you will be on the sloap frequently you need to fork out some cash. there is nothing worse than getting halfway down the slope and having your bindings break. stiff is not necessarily bad either, cause it can mean more control.
Reply:Go with the nylon straps and aluminum ratchets.
